At this point I'm definitely leaning towards just not doing the 3M layer (mostly because I don't like the look of it). And instead just touching up any chips we get. If it starts to look like it'll be really bad, touch it up and then go to one of these other places to get it added later (for much cheaper than the dealer). But if the windows need tinting (shouldn't, but don't know yet because they haven't located me a vehicle yet), I might just see if they can give me a deal for getting both done at once.

I had my old Subaru WRX tinted and 3M'd back in 2002 at Shadow Tinting, and it still looked good the day I traded it in in 2008.

Big ups for Tinting Illusions. Guys got me in right away and it looks great. Got about a 28% tint done all around and got the headlines and taillights done too. Looks fantastic! I would urge others to go there before anywhere else. Great work and great guys to deal with.

I used Icon Tinting & Graphics at 32nd Ave / 32nd Street NE. They did a quality job and it was around $275 for 3 windows.

Just got hooked up at Tintmaster on 17th SE.
Choice of 5%, 20%, 35%, or 50%. Lifetime warranty.
Went with the 20%, rear 5 windows of my new Yaris hatch. $231 all-in. 25% off the regular price!

What's the best place in town for wheels?

BUMP.
Any NEW recommendation, or NEW updates from anyone? I think I'm going to check out Shadow Tinting. I'm just looking at getting the back 2 sides and rear done. Nothing too dark. Just enough to make it comfortable and reduce the use of the A/C.

Got mine done here as well. Guy does an unreal job and is a total perfectionist. He had to rip out the tints a couple times in my car because they weren't "perfect" and redo them when he installed them initially. They have been on my car for 2+ years now and there's zero bubbles or fading.
I ended up getting 30% on all windows including front. Cops have never hassled me over them.

Wouldn't making part of your car more absorbent to the sun make the AC use increase?

Tinting reduces the infiltration of sunlight and UV in the passenger compartment, basically reduces the effect of the greenhouse effect inside your car. It does make it cooler

Correct me if I am wrong here, but the percentage on the tint is the percentage of light that is able to pass through the tint.
So 15% tint allows 15% of light through
Am I right?

+1 I came in here to recommend them.
I had them put the full front 3M on, as well as 35% tint 5 windows. great service.

Correct.
And I've been very happy with Shadow tint on Mcleod Trail, near Hooters.

Another +1 for Icon. I have had my last 3 vehicles done there and Damian (sp?) is a solid guy. I just had my 550 done there last month for $325 + tax.

I went Shadow. On lots of cars they actually take the glass out to do it. Whatever film they use is awesome too. Still looks totally grey, not going brown or purple at all.

Anybody know how much the shops charge to REMOVE tint?
I want to take off the front tint. I bought the car with the tint on all 4 windows (Ontario car, but in Calgary til August), and I've never liked having tint on the front.

Being near Hooters is reason enough for me check them out! Go for wings while I wait for my car to be tinted.
Lots of good advice and suggestions in this thread. Much appreciated!
