It is shocking. I'd say the most shocking part of the video is the moment you realize they are rounding up red heads. It's a really cool WTF moment. Would the reaction have been the same if they were rounding up Islamic Extremists? Maybe, but it would be from a different crowd.
I think it's an intersting video and she's definitley played her cards right. I mean, how many of us would have actually listened to the song if not for the music video? Maybe half? I wouldn't have anyway. I don't really listen to her music.
And I don't understand why people are saying "shock and awe" to get people to listen etc. Umm, hello, that's what marketing is. If you do the same old thing, nobody cares. It's only when you do some above and beyond, aka "shock and awe" that illicits a reaction out of people. Perfectly played by MIA.

I don't think the video is original at all nor is it shocking. If you want shocking go watch the NIN Broken movie. That s*** is effed up.
It does illicit a reaction which is good but I'm not sure the song has anything to do with the video which is bad. The video is obviously social commentary but I'm not sure if it is anything other than kind of provocative. I'm not even sure if the social commentary is done well. it is getting one hell of a reaction on the interwebs though.
FTR I'm not a fan or a hater of MIA. I'm just commenting from a neutral POV.
