IMO it wouldnt make much sense, even with marksmen, to have only two live bullets when you need to be sure of death.

Like I said, I am not sure, I just know they all don't have real bullets in the gun.

Yeah, I am pretty sure only one gun has a blank and this is only done to give the shooters some "piece of mind" in never knowing who actually delivered the fatal blow while still assuring the death of the inmate.

Far as I'm concerned no free society should give the government the right to kill its own citizens. Sure, emotionally we often want it, but I don't think the ends really justify the means.

when has your scenario ever happened which resulted in either a death penalty or life in prison? i don't think the odds would be significant enough to outweigh an inmates choice to choose death over life imprisonment, and remove his burden from society. at that point it's not the government's decision, it's the convict's

Who knows. How many innocent people have been executed?
How many innocent people have been let go from death row because of DNA evidence?
How many of those people were convinced that they were actually guilty?
I'm sure it happens.

This reminds me of Wesley Allan Dodd, He requested to be executed by Hanging. He made a statement that he wanted to be executed in a simillar manor in which he killed one of his young victims.
Prior to Dodd's, The most recent hanging in the US was in Kansas in 1965.
Less than four years elapsed between the murders and Dodd's execution.
Dodd was executed by hanging at 12:05 a.m. on January 5, 1993 at Washington State Penn, Walla Walla.

I've always thought that there was something sort of dignified about facing a firing squad. It's probably mostly just the perception I've been given by the movies, but I saw an old video of some small town mayor and civic leaders being executed by Russians during WW2 and the mayor raised his hat toward the squad before they shot him. Pretty crazy, but that's how I'd wanna go in that situation.

Can the convict pick any execution method? It would be cool if they chose Deadliest Warrior!

I'm reminded of the 1930 hanging of serial killer, arsonist, rapist, and all-misanthrope Carl Panzram. His last moments before being hanged:
Quote:
Panzram was hanged on September 5, 1930. When asked by the executioner if he had any last words, Panzram barked, "Yes, hurry it up, you Hoosier ! I could kill ten men while you're fooling around!"[3] When they put the noose around his neck, he apparently spit in his executioner's face and declared, "I wish all mankind had one neck so I could choke it!"

How come the shooters get this luxury, while the electrician who flips the switch on the chair, or the doctor who oversees the injections, don’t?
Is it separate unions or something??!
