Nah, I'd rather go for a long ride in the afternoon, then drop my bike off at home, head down to the patio at the Ship & Anchor, and have a good chuckle at the "Shells Angels".
Seriously, do those guys ever actually ride their bikes?
That all being said, I'm likely to be out and about on my bike that day anyway, probably on that same route, but I'm not a huge fan of riding in groups larger than about 4, so I likely won't be joining. Though if I pass you on the 762, I will wave.

Because I would like to know what the actual solution is, numb nuts. Saying, "Take it somewhere else!" isn't really being constructive. It's just b!tching and complaining.
Bikes do need gas, and people are allowed to stop for lunch and take breaks you know. Also, riding motorcycles on public roads is completely legal.
So, what exactly is your plan to stop all this, hmm?
I live along 17th Ave (downtown), so I should probably complain about bar noise, right? Some things come with the territory, so don't get your panties all in a bunch.
Uhh..yeah. Gotcha.
numb nuts...ha ha funny.

Soooo.... I guess that's a NO on actually having a suggestion. As I said, "haters gonna hate".
Seriously, the anti-motorcyclists that have chimed in on this thread are making it worse for themselves. If there are no useful suggestions for the riders, then they take it as just b!tching and complaining, and will ignore it. Trust me, they know that there's a hate on for them, so they'll take it as that unless something constructive comes out of it.
*For the record, I'm 99% sure I won't go on this ride, but I don't see anything wrong with the idea.

Living near a bohemian urban village drawns the motorcyclists and their needlessly loud arrogant inappropriate bikes. I want to drop a bomb on the Harley Davidson factory. Here's a clue Harley Davidson guy: everyone else thinks you're a dick and no that bike is not going to get you laid.
There is a massive difference between "Mr. Wanna Be Motorcycle Gang Tough Guy Harley owner with stupid loud pipes that need to be expressed ad nauseum and brand new overpriced Harley leathers and a cheeseball helmet with dew-rag atop his gaybag bike" and guy with a very cool motorcross bmw type or crotch rocket or cruiser or other bike that does not fit the first described category.
It is just another example of the lowest level of a group that brings the entire group down.

Actually, the majority could vote within their local districts to effectively ban you from their communities in the guise of imposing noise restrictions with stiff fines.
Or, if prevented from doing that by some aspect of The Highway Act, they could impose parking restrictions and other harrassments to essentially force you to take your business somewhere else.
If they thought it was sufficient enough of a problem.
As another example, on the very popular Road To Hana on Maui, there is a quaint, beautiful little place called Kaenae which has signs in residential areas that read something like "If you do not live here, you do not belong here. Turn around and leave." Seriously. Not hard to take that hint.
If I'm not mistaken, there ARE community mandated noise restictions and periodic police crackdowns on 17th St. Crap doesn't go with the territory.
You're the visitor in a community where other people live their lives. They make the rules.
Anyhoo, I don't live in Black Diamond, Longview or Turner, popular stops for weekend riders. I don't care. But I know the people who live there aren't too happy about it and it may become something in the future. That's up to them.

Can all the "I hate motorcycles and the people that ride them crowd" please take your argument to a separate thread. I am all for a healthy debate, but I opened this thread to try and put together a group ride, not have a debate. It is a sign-up thread.
I know my satanic devil machine with a non modified factory exhaust system may cause you some inconvenience for the 7 seconds it is audible as it passes by your home, but the 30 some odd thousand dollars I paid in federal and provincial taxes last year, a big portion of which likely went to maintain our highway system, suggests I have as much right as you to be on the highway with whatever DOT approved vehicle I choose.
Should you wish to debate the topic of motorcyclists and their machines being a plague on society, I suggest the following thread titles:
"Motorcyclist bashing 101, how to paint an entire group with one wide stroke, based on the actions of few."
"Loud motorcycle exhausts drive me NUTS! Also anyone know where I can get a deal on an mugen fart canon exhaust and a 75" sub woofer for my Civic?"
"Motorcycles, I am too scared to ride one, so should I just insult the people that do instead?"

Ok, and as of yet, there are no such bans in these areas, so obviously it's not "sufficient enough of a problem".
I love how you come in here hoping to inform everyone, when it's not the riders that need to know this info. Go tell your friends in these areas about your sign idea - they're the ones complaining.
If you have a suggestion for riders on how they can be more "polite", without outright avoiding these areas, then by all means share the info. We're all ears.
A terrific idea, Pylon for Mayor! May 9th sounds great and I've always enjoyed that route....count me in!
As luck would have it, I just picked up a 2000 Honda VFR800 yesterday (no pics, yet )......the bike that started this little 2-wheeled obsession of mine. Put in a lot of miles to get my skills up to scratch, but wow, so worth the wait!
"law abiding, alcohol free ride, and ego's need to be checked at the door".....the recipe for a beautiful, problem free day.
So it will be at least "A couple guys from CP go for a ride". Looking forward to it Wilson.
BTW AWESOME choice in bike. My favorite bike I ever owned was my 2001 VFR and I still regret selling it. The first one I find with less than 5000 kms on it, I will be buying. That is the best all around machine ever. And super sexy with that single sided swing arm, and the fit and finish of that bike is on par with the best. What color did you end up getting? Mine was that Tahiti Blue.

Okay to kind of get back on topic.
I'm honestly gettnig a little bored with the roads around Calgary.
There are really only two that are good for a quick afternoon jaunt
(the 1A to Canore) and the 762.
As for longer rides, there are a couple:
Highway 40/541 through to longview
The Bow Valley Parkway out to Louise
Anyone know of any other good rides, especially shorter ones that can be done in 2 hours?

We don't need to be harsh. I just started this as a sign up thread, so I would kindly ask if you wish to debate the merits of the motorcycling hobby, please feel free to open a separate thread as I suggested. I am sure I will chime in on that one.

Ok, I apologize. I don't want to derail your thread, so I'll stop debating with the others. I'll stay out of the thread.

Wait a minute, didn't you do the exact same thing in the 420 thread? hmmm

Actually, it's the riders who need to know the info and it was just a friendly FYI so they know there is some tension building there.
There's actually an isolated cafe at the corner of Highway 549 and Highway 40 that does get some traffic . . . . . since you asked.
But, what are you gonna do? Motorcycles are loud and obnoxious and, in many cases, made deliberately that way. If communities don't like it, they'll do something about it . . . . . and they have in the past. Others, like Daytona, might go the opposite way. It's up to them.
I'm not against motorcycles and, in fact, my uncle owns one of the largest motorcycle dealerships in western Canada while my father rode his Harley around western North America in his younger days.
