yeah they are pretty bad, a very deep darker red and the numbers are shiny... and some don't have the stripes portioned properly... but you get what you pay for!

I won't even buy from nhl.com though cause I am picky and like all names and numbers stitched on

Just checking out the jerseys on that site. So many of them have incorrectly drawn logos and bad detail work. The Flames don't use a white laceup on their jersey!

I'm a jersey collector so money-wise I'd probably be better off buying knock-offs and having more quantity for my money but I can't bring myself to do it. If I got my knock-off I know I would scrutinize it looking for just one mistake and that would be enough for me not to want it anymore. So I keep spending 200+ dollars for each one I buy...it just means I don't buy as often.

The best place online is still River City Sports. They do a fantastic job.

These knockoffs look terrible in person. Like someone already mentioned, just walking through the Dome you can spot the off colored red and it's a bit embarrassing to notice someone wearing a cheap bootleg jersey.

Yup... they're horrible in person. Every time we're at the dome I yell out "Attack of the Fake Jersey Ninjas" in a somewhat dated reference from the last scene of Bowfinger...

But damn, there are so many of those ugly fakes around town, it's sad.

Look at this thing...

Not even close. It's hard to tell from the photo, but in person, the red is almost bright orange.
The easiest way to tell a fake is by the fight strap. Why do all fakes think the fight strap is authentic. You can see the stitching of the strap below the 12 on the back of the jersey.

Why would anyone buy a fake? They look like crap. Most people know they are fake. You know they are fake. I'd feel awkward if I wore one, knowing most people could tell. If you can't afford a jersey, but a jersey shirt from the Dome instead of a fake jersey from a company that is profiting from other people's trademarked items and are basically stealing from Reebok and the Flames.

Look at the description of the Retro Iginla jersey on the site. It says it's to replicate the 2010 Winter Classic teams. Calgary didn't even play in the game.

I just bought a 'Authentic Vintage' jersey from the fanattic with Vernon cresting. I can see the stitching from the fight strap on the back of the jersey under the 30, is this not correct, are you not supposed to see the stitching? The stitching on mine does look more professional than the one shown above though. I would imagine that if its purchased from the fanattic that any doubts of authenticity should be relieved, no?

Fanattic would never sell a fake jersey, so you should be good.

Purchased an Iginla Team Canada fake jersey, never again. Everything was way out of whack & i ended up sending it back, buying legit ones from now on.

The vintage jerseys the Flames wear in general look off compared to the 1980s version, never mind how any sort of knockoff would look.

The "Authentic" jerseys that they sell at the Fanattic are the same as what the players wear on the ice (I believe the tag even says "On Ice") and they do have the fight strap (and you can see the stitching). They also have all the logos and patches sewn on, rather than just glued; they have extra material sewn inside around the elbows; and they don't have the size label on the outside like the replicas.

Authentics normally cost about $400 with cresting (although, I believe they had a sale late in the season), so that's the biggest clue as to whether or not you bought an authentic or a replica (which are officially called the "Premiere").

If you bought it from the Flames and it has a fight strap, you should definitely have a real Authentic.

Removed links and offers on where to buy these, discussion about the jerseys is fine but please do not post where to get them.

Sorry. To clarify, I meant the fakes in the Premier cut have the fight strap. The authentics are cut differently and do have the fight strap. I didn't mean to say any that had a fight strap were fake, but that's pretty much what it looks like I said.

I guess the MLB ones are supposed to be damn near identical.. in most cases.

The Nordiques ones appear to be very close, nobody could tell on them since you rarely see a Nordiques to compare it to anymore.

I question how long these will last though, and I guess there is a good chance they get stopped at the border and you never see it.

The Premiere jerseys have the slits up the sides as well.

Baseball would be the easiest to copy, I would think, since most jerseys just have a single colour fabric (or pinstripes in some cases) and one or two colours on the lettering. If you have the right white with blue pinstripes fabric, the Yankees home jersey would be insanely easy to replicate. The Red Sox would be pretty easy too, and I'd assume those would be their two biggest sellers.

I'm sure some of the more obsessed fans would be able to spot even an MLB fake pretty easily. The people who contribute to the Uni Watch website: http://www.uniwatchblog.com/ are pretty damn obsessed. I've seen them pinpoint almost the exact date a photo was taken based on some nearly imperceptible change made to a team's uniform.

I'd think hockey would be the hardest to knock off because of the striping and more complex logos.

Exactly, I am tempted to ask them where they bought their fake jersey everytime I see one but figure I am just asking for a fight.

Why would you think it's your role to police this sort of thing? Would you also pull people over for speeding?
