Been out there lately? Most of that sketchy road into Golden is gone and suprise suprise it's one of the few spots on the road they boost the speed limit to 100.

The super windy edge of the cliff road was replaced by this. The rest of it will be done in the next couple years. Big push on to twin the whole thing from Calgary to Kamloops, the Alberta side should be done in a few years.

They've done 26 of the 43 KMs on the road into Golden already, working on the last phase now.

I did see a semi rolled over on its side about 5 years ago at about 3am one morning coming outta golden, but suprise suprise it was on the flat west side of town.

I just did Calgary/Kamloops and back to go skiing last weekend. In a couple years the road won't be recognizable compared to what it was 5 years ago.

The hot springs are actually just outside the national park boundaries.

National Park Entry fees do not have to be paid while visiting Radium Hot Spring. However, Park Entry fees MUST be paid to continue into Kootenay National Park or to Proceed into Banff National Park.

Have you been over the new bridge east of Golden? It's awesome. Probably knocks 15 minutes off your drive time itself.

I drove from the Fairmont Hot Springs to Lake Louise early in the morning before the Kootenay gates had anybody manning them. I ended up getting a park pass at the National Park office in Lake Louise.

The National Parks program is definitely a government program that I'm happy to support.

Also, keep in mind the "day" pass is actually good for 2 days. They expire at 4pm the next day.

1) I think it's a federal speed limit set across the board for all parks.

2) There are animals who get around the fence. Once a few KMs after the park entrance, in a grassy area between the highway I saw a bear. You could almost see the dialog going on the bear's head (if it were to have dialog) "how the fata am I going to get out of here?!"

3) While there are a number of wildlife crossings which has decreased the number of accidents they aren't always used.

4) There are a lot of tourists on the road who are looking at the scenery and are likely going slower as a result.

5) That extra 5 minutes it takes to get from the park gate to the ski hills isn't going to kill you. Slow down and enjoy what you have in your own backyard.
it's a lot more than 5 minutes when you're not just going to Banff, but driving to the Okanagan. it's a divided, dual lane highway with a multi-million dollar wildlife fence and crossing setup, yet the speed limit is lower than deerfoot. hell there are single lane highways with plenty of wildlife issues in BC and the speed limit is 100. that area is setup simply as a cash grab, nothing more
