**DISCLAIMER**
This is NOT a TROLL POST. REALLY. I'm just a bit disgruntled.

I was really looking forward to this update. I've been a PC guy forever but was seriously considering grabbing a MBP and giving OS X a try (I can always bootcamp windows if I want to, right?).

I certainly wasn't going to pay nearly $2k in 2010 for a core 2 duo laptop, so I waited patiently for apple to update and become at least somewhat competitive.

I was prepared to pay a premium for a mac. I knew it existed. I probably could have rationalized up in the $400 range in difference between a MBP and a comparable Dell.

But when the difference is that much for a Dell that absolutely destroys the MBP in EVERY category (excluding body of course, perhaps battery life), it gets a little harder to rationalize.

Anyways, in conclusion, I'm really just disappointed
I was pretty excited to grab a MBP but I'm having a hard time rationalizing that purchase now.

Maybe some of you apple fanboys() can cheer me up?

Technically I told her to buy the twitter client ... she just lazily didn't do it and saved herself. I did however tell this individual to not buy a MBP. I told her to keep her receipt and return it if the update came within the month, but I'm not sure how long it's been.

edit: Oh.My.

This
is why my friends need to listen to me when buying Apple products. The following is the response to my question of when she's buying a macbook pro and my recommendation that she not buy it. I told her to at least hold onto the receipt in case they update in the next 30 days and she can return it. Note the date:

Almost a month to the day. What are the chances?

Why are you here?

I should have said "twice as close to the PC market prices as yesterday".

This is why I think Apple needs it's own forum.

Minor nitpick, its not actually Optimus, it’s apparently an Apple home baked solution.

Are nvidia chips that bad? I'd rather have them over ATI

I don't have a problem with an NVidia chip, just that the GT 330M is pretty mid-range. I wish they'd at least provided the option to upgrade to something more powerful.

Come on now, give me some credit. I've never said anything bad about Apple laptops on these forums that I can recall. They're not for me, but they're perfectly good laptops.

Couple of discoveries about the new stuffs:

- Mini DisplayPort now supports audio too.
- There is an Apple Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter coming.
- The 320M graphics chip in the 13" was built specifically for Apple.
- They've lowered the price of their 4GB RAM sticks by $100 per stick.

Also, in regards to the 13" still retaining the Core 2 Duo... here's what Steve had to say:

Quote:
We chose killer graphics plus 10 hour battery life over a very small CPU speed increase. Users will see far more performance boost from the speedy graphics.
Even though they didn't bump it to the I3, they still did pretty good. Here's the break down of the changes:

Processor: 2.26GHz -> 2.4GHz
RAM: 2GB -> 4GB
HD: 160GB -> 250GB
Graphics: 940M -> 320M
Battery: 7 Hrs -> 10 Hrs
Price: $1299 -> $1249

So... Faster processor, double the RAM, bigger hard drive, much better graphics, 3 more hours of battery... $50 less.

Anyone know when places other than the Apple Store will have these in (i.e. Best Buy, etc.)?

New MPB benchmarks:
http://www.primatelabs.ca/blog/2010/...ro-benchmarks/

I expected a bit larger gap between the i7's and i5's.

Still haven't seen any benchmarks on the 256MB vs. 512MB GT 330M's. Anyone else?

Unlike the desktop series, the arrandale mobile i5 and i7 are very similar, at least at the low end of the i7 line.

Fine I'll bite.

How is it a waste? What if he is doing video editing?

I don't understand of concept of apple computers.

Paying 2-3X more for a comparable PC doesn't really make sense to me. I honestly wonder how they stay competitive.

EDIT: Don't want to get in a Apple vs PC discussion.
