Hm, 75 degrees might be high then:

http://processorfinder.intel.com/det...x?sSpec=SLBLC#

You can use CPUZ to confirm that that's the right spec sheet
http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

But you might want to do some searching to see if the HWMon temperature for the CPU is accurate, I can't remember the details and I don't have that processor, but I think there's some things to consider beyond just reading the temperature outright.

Some info here:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/254263-29-heat-issue

That spec says 72.7, but that's at the heat spreader. If HWMonitor is measuring the core (inside the CPU), then you can add 5 degrees to that for a max of 77.7, which you are under but very close to. It's probably a stock cooler though so that's to be expected.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Hmmmm, you guys are quite right. Upon further reading around, ATI is sounding much better from what I remember, my bad. Serves me right for holding a grudge Been looking for a good replacement for the dual 8800 GTS I have atm, praps I'll look at ATI.

It hit 80 at points during the test, though standing still it runs at under 30. It didn't crash or act up during the tests.

It hasn't crashed tonight... hoping that since I just installed the driver released today that maaaaybe that ends it. Who knows, the crash I experienced this morning could have been a fluke, given new vcard/new mboard installed yesterday. Suspicious fluke though....

Thanks for your help!

80 is really high I think.. what temperature is the room you are in?

If it's normal temperature, just think what it will be like when you add 8 degrees to room temperature in summer.

As for ATI vs nvidia, it goes back and forth.. I've still got an 8800GT, and when that was current it was an amazing chip, low power for what you get.. currently ATI has the performance crown AND the efficiency crown, and it looks to continue with the current nvidia ones coming out running VERY hot and only percentage points better than ATI.. but nvidia will perfect their new chip, shrink the die, and it'll swing back as the best while ATI plays catchup for a while.

HWmon's readings may be incorrect. Try realtemp and see if the readings are different.

http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/

I know that my temperature sensors only read properly with realtemp.
