Oh, one other thing.... the CBC article on this states that on the Monday following setting the clocks ahead one hour, traffic accidents go UP 17% over an average day. But following setting clocks back an hour, you don't see them go down.
This would suggest that when setting the clocks ahead, we sacrifice 1 hour of sleep, but when setting the clocks back we don't get any more sleep as we use the hour to, I dunno... watch spaghetti westerns?

I wish we stayed on this time all year as the time switch doesn't really help us. I hate when we switch and it's dark at 4:30pm in December. It's dark in the morning anyway so I'd rather have some light out when I go home.

Calgary is in the same time zone as Arizona; Mountain time. One state's law does not have influence in another country.
However many tropical areas do not change their clocks. I just do not recall if Mexico does; or once again if that varies state by state.

Because a sample size of one is ridiculous?

What? I can assure you that the vast majority of people I know are not up at 6am.

I use DST as an excuse to act like a jack-ass to friends, family and co-workers and blame it on the lack of sleep.

Personally I'd like them to leave it at the summer time. I like that it's light later. In the winter it sucks when the sun is going down at 4:30. That extra hour would make me much more productive.
However one argument I heard to set it back which I can't argue against is that it's lighter earlier in the winter so it's light when children are going to school. If taking an hour of light from the evening and giving it to the morning so children are walking/waiting for the bus/etc daylight rather than dark/dawn, then I think that's a good thing.
Either way . . . I need another coffee

Almost missed AS Roma vs Livorno this morning because of DST. Now, I kinda wish I did.

Since I am on the side of narbeZ, I withdraw my claim.
Actually, I did a Google search, and the both studies I found said that 1/3 of working adults are up by 6am. A third is not "most" like I said.

Judging by traffic flows, I would say "most" working Calgarians are up by 6:30 a.m. for a 7:30 or 8 a.m. work start.
Calgary and Vancouver have peculiar work cycles relative to the East Coast. Torontonians probably really do work from 9 to 5 but that is likely a fairly foreign concept in this city.
I know I'm at my desk somewhere between 7 and 7:30 a.m. after getting up about 6:15 . . . . . and I'm in rush hour right about then.
I'm like most people . . . . having sunshine in the morning is nice but I'd rather have more sunshine in the afternoon for post-work life.

Newborn in the house combined with Spring forward, and the thought of having to go back to work tommorrow. Thats probably going to equal one very useless worker tommorrow.
Being in the Pacific time zone, I'm at work by 7:30 every day. Being in a small town, I used to get away with waking up at 6:45.

With a broken leg I nap all the time anyway so this didn't affect me at all.

From what my cousin told me, there are 3 reasons why we have it.
1) Save electricity - if streetlights are suppose to turn off at 8:30am and it's already daylight by 7:30, then moving the clock 1 hour ahead will have them turn off closer to the right time.
2) Reduce Crime - he said there are actually studies that show crime goes down the less daylight there is to do said crimes.
3) Can't remember what he said about the third reason.

With the 'spring ahead', I hope I don't miss the high school prom tonight. I hear there may or may not be one in Mississippi.

It can also be a source of entertainment!
I got a relayed email from the "business guy" (i.e. non-technical guy) for a contract I work for this morning, with a graph for new registrations for the service.. Looks great except for this big zero on it.
So he's asking what went wrong with our system so that there were no new registrations between 2 and 3 am last night.
I had to email back the Picard facepalm motivational poster.

Arizona Mountain is not the same as Calgary Mountain.
Right now i'm on Pacific time, 1 HR behind Calgary. Friday I was in Calgary Mountain.

I am in Maui for two weeks, and totally forgot this was coming - but it turns out does not affect us here - other than now Flames games are 4 hours earlier than before.
