The worst I ever had it was the first time I played Guitar Hero. I wasn't giving my eyes a break in between songs and wasn't blinking enough. When I finished playing I looked at my bed which had a lot of lines on it in a symmetrical pattern and I thought I was on acid.

Never had a problem with FPS's however; although I rarely get nauseated in general. The only problem I get is if I am playing in a dark room that is only lit from the computer screen. I find it's harder on my eyes and that turning on a small lamp solves the problem. Same with watching a movie.

I'm guessing this is because you don't strafe in Mario Kart.

You do if you're driving properly.

Actually, I've seen more people have a problem with mario kart than most other games. Don't know why.

BF2 had a decent field of view. Later games are console ports and they drop the field of view because they want to increase frame rate (lower field of view means you are zoomed in more and you see less on screen) and also they expect players to be sitting further away on a couch for example instead of playing a game 2 feet from their monitor.

I added these lines to the config file for COD4/MW2 and it made a ridiculous difference

bind 0 "cg_fov 85"
bind 9 "cg_fov 80"
Bind 8 "cg_fov 65"

Unfortunately, I don't think that works in multiplayer but the difference between an 85° FOV and a 65° FOV was simply ridiculous in how much more natural it felt. 65° FOV is like running around with binoculars or really thick glasses on because you always feel zoomed in.

You made your mom play battlefield 2? Now I think the question is more so 'How old is your mom?'

She would have been 50 at the time she played. We put her as a sniper in a good perch on one of those city Special Forces maps and she got a couple kills before she couldn't handle it. I was impressed.

Forget first-person shooters. I can't even handle 90% of TV without feeling ill...

I sit about 10-12 feet away from my 52" TV. Too close?

Too far!

Not from the sense of nausea though. In the dark?

I always get sick from first person shooters but I have been playing them mostly on a 42' screen. I've tried sitting farther back and trying sea-bands to see if it helps but it doesn't. I will even feel ill from playing something like Diablo 2 on my 16' laptop. I don't know what to do. I used to be fine playing GTA when I was 15 but now I get sick from watching GTA or Modern Warfare 2 for less than 5 minutes. I will feel intense nausea and get a really bad headache. Something though that I've found that sometimes works is not playing full screen (on a computer), so just playing in a window. It totally sucks appearance wise but it seems the still background of the desktop tricks my brain. I don't know if it sounds crazy..

I experience nausea even when the room is fully lit.

Weird.... since I use to always feel nauseated when I played Golden Eye for N64 for long periods of time, but every other FPS I never feel sick.

That's actually on the far end of the spectrum for optimal viewing...
