The more I look at it the more I think they'll fix it, looking I can't see any change in spacing in gaps and stuff that would indicate the frame is bent. That there looks very fixable, mostly cosmetic. If the airbags didn't deploy I doubt there would be "frame" damage.
Has your wife tried Bean-o to rectify the smell while she drives?

There could be damage to the coolant reservoir, was there significant fluid loss at the scene? Is there any over heating indicated? That might cause a smell. Deer feces and what not in the climate air intake?
I was involved in a MVA in late 2008, I did an estimated $9000.00 damage to my 2005 Honda Civic. I thought for sure it would be a write-off. The insurance company decided to fix it, as the damage was completely cosmetic and could be repaired with great success. They valued that car higher then I did, at the time.
