You should love one team (the Flames) and hate the other 29.

Yeah, I dont know, I know I couldnt do it.

There are teams that I hate less than others and I wouldnt mind them doing well, but when they play the Flames I hope they get slaughtered.

There are players that I like and follow, but I'm generally pretty 'meh' on the whole team.

This isn't serious business. People can be hockey fans in whatever manner they find most entertaining. There's no right or wrong way.

People sometimes forget that this isn't tribal warfare. It's just pretend. We don't actually think the Canucks and Oilers are the armies of Satan let loose upon earth to torment the righteous. We just... pretend to think that because it's fun.

So somebody thinks it's fun to cheer for two teams--who are you to tell him or her not to?

I found that playing fantasy hockey was more of a threat to my Flames fandom than secondarily rooting for an Eastern Conference team.

As long as it's just pretend, it's fine.

Bandwagoners exist.

Those people are only true fans of one team and they bandwagon on the other. My dad is a prime example, Leafs fan till he dies, but bandwagon flames fan.

I dont blame him though, he grew up listening to Leafs communist propoganda on the radio. He has had a good couple weeks of reminding me that they now have Phaneuf and we dont.

How is that working out for them? In six games Dion has two points and is minus 2.

This. When someone tells me they have two(or more) favourite teams, I just assume they're not a big sports fan. I think it takes away credibility from their sports knowledge/passion, at least it would in my eyes towards someone like that.

I remember when I was 12 liking the Cowboys and Saints, and even then I thought it was lame so I just chose the Saints.

I cheer very strongly for two teams.

1. Kings
2. Flames

When they play each other its not that fun for me. Most importantly, I just hope nobody gets hurt. I typically enjoy hockey fights, but not between Kings players and Flames players. I've cheered for the Flames over the Kings many times, which I know doesn't make sense to most people because the Kings are and always will be my number one team. But when the Kings are in draft lottery hell during the season and the Flames are playing for a division title, why shouldn't I root for the Flames over my number one team? For the Flames, those points mean a lot more, so I want them to get them. Its so much less complicated in my head than it sounds.

I travel a lot to see the Flames. Someday I really want to get to Calgary and get a chance to see them as the home team. I've only ever seen them on the road. I would never consider myself a bandwaggoner of the Flames. I was pretty much raised at the Forum as my family has had season seats since the Kings inception. Not really a bandwaggoner there either. Its fun having two teams. Thank goodness for the Flames, without them hockey seasons would be misearable the past six or so years that the Kings have outright stunk!

OH yeah, the best part of this, I have a long time Kings fan like myself who is now a huge Flames fan. She started out as a travel companion because she always liked Tanguay and now she's in almost as deep as I am when it comes to the Flames.

I like the Flames because it's my home town team, I like the Pens, because Crosby is my favorite player. I liked the Av's as well for the sole-reason of Joe Sakic. He is no longer with them, so they can go f*** themselves.

If the Flames-Pens ever met in the finals though, sorry, but I hope Crosby gets destroyed by Regehr.

I could never cheer for anyone in the west besides the Flames, doesn't feel right.

Ice's comment made me think of something: I think the only way I could cheer for a 2nd team is if I moved to another city that had a team in the same league, that WASN'T a divisional rival(in the opposite conference would especially help). If I moved to, say, Philly and lived there for quite a few years, I could see how you'd become emotionally attached to the team. I'd probably still favour one more than the other in the end though.

Yeah, that makes sense. It is quite odd that I developed such a liking for the Flames when I've never even been to Calgary. It just happened.

I don't actively cheer for teams other than the Flames, but I do root for other teams over other teams if that makes sense. I've always had a soft spot for the Blue Jackets for some reason, but I'm not going to wear a BJ's jersey or anything.

I am a Bruins fan first and foremost, have been since I was 8. Moving to Calgary I started following the Flames and now I consider myself a fan of both.
The Bruins come first, but I will cheer for the Flames every other game of the year.

I'm a Devils fan first, but also enjoy watching the Flames. They are not "rivals" as they only play each other once a season. And it means that if I want to stay up and watch a late game, I have somewhat of a vested interest in the games.

So tomorrow we are enemies. The other 81 games, I'll be cheering on the Flames.

Speak for yourself. I've seen the horns sticking out from under Burrows' helmet.
