Sorry, I suppose I wasn't clear enough in my original post.

Hockey is a team sport, and you win and you lose as a team. To me, contributing to team awards such as the Stanley Cup is far superior to achieving an individual award such as the Hart.

Guess who wins!

World Junior Gold - Better Supportin Cast
Olympic Gold - Better overall team
Stanley Cup Champion - Ovy will win one soon, both teams are fairly equal in my mind.

Comparing these players is not right, they play both different styles and are both amazing at the style they play.

Ovechkin shut out the English speaking media for the entire tournament, he did press for Russian media but nothing English speaking. I don't personally care, but my original post was made in response to a 'the NHL needs more guys like him' comment, which would make more sense if he didn't refuse a chance to publicize the sport outside of Russia.

As soon as Ovechkin scores a Olympic Gold medal winning goal in OT for Canada, he can be the best player.

Just wait, the day will come when those of us this board will be old and grey, Crosby and Ovechkin will both be retired and this debate will still get taken up by young hockey fans.

Indeed. Once you look past his dirty play, checks from behind and penchant for showing up his opposition, he's fantastic!

At the time of the tourneys Ovechkins Russian teams were supposed to be as good as or better than Crosby's Canadian teams teams. Crosby's teams then went on to embarass Ovi's teams on the big stage.

As for the cup, Washington is far better team right now (and last year) with oodles more offensive upside than Sids team.... but Sid has been to the finals the last 2 years.

Ovi has put up a handful of more points in the last few season and the team stat sheets show why. Crosby has continually beaten Ovechkin (check the head-to-head, it's a blow out) on the ice. There is no comparisson until Ovechkin wins something other than a hug from his team mates.
