No they didn't.

The bad part is people were texting me after the prelim round game, calling, tons of e-mail and all of them doing their best to rub it in.

After such a hugely successful Olympics for Canada, I'm guessing that none of these same folks will say anything good about Canada.

I would like to move back to Calgary and be physically closer to my family, but the timing is just not good.

Bottom line, I guess these Olympics have made me really homesick.
Those people are idiots. Karma is a bitch....not that Karma had anything to do with it. Clearly the best team won today.

Thanks...seriously! An informed opinion from someone that is a knowledgeable hockey fan (and a US citizen) begins to restore my faith.

It's a great story. Better if you're American, sure, but still great. I thought the insight into the mind of Herb Brooks was the best aspect of the film and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I rooted for Canada today. I'm American. I guess I'm a different bird so maybe I am the only person that sees your labeling of the film as propoganda as a reflection on you more than the movie.
And obviously you are the one having trouble seeing past the red, white and blue.

The American psych takes nationalism to the point of not just loving thier country, but does it by an in your face making of every other culture and nation second class.
Ask the Europeans, the South Americans and the Asians how they really feel. Me I accept Americans like anyone else on an individual basis, we're probably your best friends, but sometimes their rah rah crap gets to me, like in the movie under discussion. When Rev. Wright said 'the chickens have come home to roost' he wasn't far off the mark.

Now you'll say, I should take a look at myself, but for the most part I have no problem with the United States (most of my family came from there and half live there) but sometimes something comes along to remind me that the United States invented democracy, won both WWs single handed, and yet know jack about the rest of the world and I get a little perturbed.

How did a hockey movie remind you of that stuff?

Au contraire, I'd like to see this game made into a movie. It had a happy ending.

This isn't about a hockey game and favourite teams, although I applaud you there but if I remember right, you do have some Canadian background.

The film is about a hockey game that's twisted into an American patriotic orgy, which wouldn't be that bad if kept within your own borders.

But whatever we won't have to see that movie rehashed again, at least for another four years.

The same thing happened to me all week long after Team Canada shat the bed last Sunday. After winning today, I got crickets, not a single peep from the trashtalkers appearing last week.

Let me know how things go the rest of the week...I would hope that someone would say something positive.

The US winning now wouldn't be the 'miracle' that it was then. Really, you don't see the story there for the 1980 team?

I'm not all that patriotic, but I do get a little touchy when someone says that they "hate" living in my country. Everything that you said in this post was 100% fair though. I find that most people from the US really do like Canada, but like most things in life, it's the most ignorant people who make the most noise. I realize that the US has more than its share of ignorant people, but a lot of us aren't so bad (myself not necessarily included). Anyway, congratulations on the gold, and I fully encourage you to rub it in the face of anyone who had anything to say after last week's game.

All the Russians/Latvians/Slovaks/Other Commies on my team were very gracious about Russia's defeat. And even though they were mostly cheering for the USA in the end (they are the underdogs, and Canada is a much more serious hockey rival than America), they were equally gracious about Canada's victory over the States.

Lots of respect for Canadian hockey, even though they dont like how we play the game, but also a clear appreciation for the weaknesses of the American team.

I want Will Smith to play Jarome and Andy Samberg to play Crosby.

This movie will rival Titanic and Avatar.

Overblown sensationalism happens in every country, i'm Canadian, but the blind bias by the media and sensationalization of some of the events and achievements turned me off some things.

For example, Pierre Maguire and TSN love to sensationalize EVERYTHING that Team Canada and certain players do. To the point where they aren't really reporting facts, but rather telling fictional stories.

We are ALL educated hockey fans here in Canada and we don't need people like Maguire telling us what is or isn't a great play or who is or who isn't a great player. Maguire telling me that Chris Pronger played great is an insult to my hockey intelligence.

Point being, every country does it....

He does the exact same thing with American players. It's not a matter of nationalism, it's a matter of Maguire being overly caffeniated.

This game didnt even come close the the Lake Placid story.

Lake Placid for the US is like 72 for Canadians, no one in their right mind would compare this or 2002 with 72. Just get over it.

As for in your face patrioitism, if you dont like it dont watch their TV or Movies. No one is forcing you to watch this stuff.
