Canada has a legitimate chance to win Gold in all of those events, and will almost certainly win several of them. That's still 12 events where Gold is a possibilty - and that 's counting out longshot contenders that could win.

Did LeBetard ever consider that the U.S. hockey team has all NHL players while the Canadian basketball team is entirely made up of Euro League players?

He's the same tard that claimed Steve Nash won NBA NVP due to racism. His hatred of Canadians is well documented.

Three points for a gold, two for a silver, and one for a bronze is how some networks calculate the medal standings. Under that formula, Canada is in 4th place.

I'd prefer 10 points for gold, zero for every other loser. Gold is all that matters.

If you look at the official Beijing standings they all list China over The US due to the gold count. I can see either argument but the more I think about it the more gold count makes sense as that means you won the event.

BBC rankings
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/olym...le/default.stm (by golds)
NBC rankings
http://www.2008.nbcolympics.com/meda...ngs/index.html (by total medals)
someone may have an ulterior motive??? maybe?!?!
I will go with the IOC, the BBC, and everyone else
over NBC's fuzzy logic to put the US 1st

Olympic golds are sadly just gold plated. Therefore, the states has more value in total metal with all the silvers.

Funny, when I first saw the Beijing totals, I noted the site was .cn so I thought it was the Chinese at first who were bending things to fit their agenda. I then checked other sites and noted that was the method they all used.

If we win the most golds, I propose the following slogans:
Canada: We're good at being the best!
USA: We're good at being pretty good!

Personally, I care only about Gold medals; you know, as in "I got Gold because I WON the competition"
So, with that said, Go Canada!
If they get into top 3 rankings with Gold, I'll be happy.
But aim for #1 though!
And unlike the &*&( media, I will never put pressure on them. Winning for themselves comes BEFORE winning for Canada.

honestly i never get that excited to see a Canadian win a silver or bronze medal. sure the hardware is nice i guess, but seeing them win gold is so much more exciting and when in come cases they're so close to getting gold (like the snowboard cross guy) it just feels like defeat to get silver

When canada always seemed to be higher in the rankings when it was done by total medals I thought total medals was more fair. Now that Canada is doing better in golds I think golds is far more fair.
As a side note if you look at our 2009 world championship results other then Morrison and Hollingsworth we are basically matching medal for medal or better. So anyone saying either the total number or colors are disappointing really were expecting a lot. Olympic results are usually quite closely correlated with the previous world champs.

Even if we just come close:
Canada: We're pretty good at being the best!
USA: We're the best at being pretty good!
For symmetry...

So out of the medals Canada has won so far how many of these were medal sports in 1988? Nesbit's speed skating medal, and the Ice Dance gold from Moir and Virtue are the only two I think. Still I love seeing the Canadians winning a few gold medals. I'm happier to see Canada with more golds than any other medals, and I'd rather have our current set of medals than have no gold and 22 silver and bronze.
