She's got a good right to be offended, I'd be pretty steaming mad if someone took a shot at my baby with Down's Syndrome. People are morons if they don't think this is offensive.

She shouldn't have taken the bait because all it gave them was free publicity, but it was over the line
Is Palin ashamed that her child has Downs? Why would she be mad that a TV show brought it up?

My questions are only half rhetorical. Palin clearly knows what kind of show Family Guy is and regardless of how positive or negative the reference she was going to complain. Let's not forget that Republicans are the masters of spin and Palin using her child as a PR tool to gain sympathy and attention is expected.

You'll be the third person in this thread I ask this question. (the other two have yet to reply)

What was offensive about it? Did you watch the episode? What specifically was Family Guy implying about Palin's child?

Clearly the girl from the episode was not even a close representation of Palin's child so the reference can only be towards Palin herself, if there was any offensive reference at all.

The only morons here are the Palin's and Fox News for making this a story. By getting offended all you are doing is playing right into their hands. They get sympathy and PR. It doesn't hurt Family Guy either.

I think its just offensive to even point out that her child has downs syndrome, why bother bringing it up if you are family guy

they are doing it because they know it will get a response out of her, and to people who didn't see the point of the episode they probably just viewed it as making fun of people with downs syndrome

and I wouldn't solely classify the republicans as masters of spin, every politician would fall under that category

Getting mad at comedians who offend people is like cheering Ovechkin for scoring goals. Thats the point.
Sorry, I thought the last bit of my post signaled sarcasm.

I don't agree with your first premise. Just because Family Guy is an offensive show doesn't mean that every single thing they mention is automatically offensive. I've seen Peter play football on the show but I didin't see the NFL issuing a statement that it was offended that they were mentioned on the show.

Clearly, Family Guy knew that regardless of the context Palin would get offended that she was even mentioned and wanted the publicity of her complaining about it.

Personally I'm offended by the piece because I don't think morons like Sarah Palin should even be a household name and Family Guy only contributed to that.

However, in and of itself, there is nothing offensive about her child having Downs. Unnecessary to mention, sure. Offensive to bring up, in a non-offensive context, nope. If the show mentioned that Yao Ming is tall or that John Goodman is fat would posters still be offended? I doubt it. Why? Well I'm not even going to go there.

Whoosh. I actually was kind of offended that you were calling me a moron. I totally missed the sarcasm. Maybe you need to use the sarcasm symbol like in Woohoo's avatar. (just in case that joke is lost on you a company is trying to popularize a symbol for sarcasm and there was a thread on it here at CP)

I see why Palin would be offended by this. Personally I was expecting it to be far worse than it was. Aside from the song Stewie sang there wasn't too much over the line. When I first heard that family guy did a downs syndrome angle I almost cringed at the thought of what they did. Turns out they actually didn't drop the hammer as strongly as I expected.

As for the part when she references her mom being the governor of Alaska, the Palin camp should have smelled the bait from a mile away. It's obvious family guy was just looking for a quick plug, and she fell for it completely. I suppose Palin isn't exactly known for making the smart decision when speaking.

As an aside, I miss the days when we used to use green for sarcasm. Sarcasm is 75% in the voice, so it doesn't translate well via text.

I can't believe people actually take this show serious enough to complain about it. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

I thought Caribou Barbie said it was ok to say "######" as long it is satire, as demonstrated by Rush Limbaugh.

???

The debate is whether a random reference to Downs, specifically Palin's child, is offensive. Not the use of the word ######.

If you are telling the truth that is the most awesome thing I've ever heard.

And that quote is from like the 2nd or 3rd episode ever of Family Guy. They've been pushing the limits since day 1.

Sorry, I don't know what was said on Family Guy.

I'm talking about her craven lack of outrage at Rush using the word "######".

Indeed it is. Sort of did it on a dare, which is odd, because it was my idea. My next tattoo, which will be on a leg, won't feel it, how awesome is that? Will be an accessable parking emblem, tilted as if the chair is accelerating, flames-smoke, and the words "Born to Sit!".

It is interesting how Family Guy can offend so many, while at the same time have a character in a wheelchair that is all sorts of kicka#%.

You seem pretty cool Ebola, have you ever wished you could form "Cripple-tron" like in the meals on wheels episode?
