Asa buyer you always have to be clear about what happens if something purchased doesn't work. If you didn't bother to ask who would be responsible if it doesn't work then I don't see any reason to complain.
I've sold things both ways.. I've sold things where I know it works and I will say "If it doesn't work when you first try it let me know and I'll exchange it or refund" or whatever. I've sold things where I will say "We can test it before you take it but I don't guarantee it at all." because I don't want the hassle. But it should be clear, I do it to protect myself, but it's the buyer's ultimate obligation to make sure because they're the one taking the risk.
I've also exchanged things and Home Depot without a receipt before.

Also from the point of view of a seller, it's easy to get ripped off this way.
Someone buys your microwave, you plug it in and everything. Guy takes microwave home. Calls a week later saying it doesn't work etc..
For all the seller knows, the buyer dropped the microwave breaking a part inside.
Not saying the OP did that, just pointing out why I don't like threads like this.. anyone could be lying and we'd have no way of knowing.

I would probably be inclined to go medieval on his ass based on this alone.

I like how the smallest, most minor and insignificant of transgressions tends to warrant seemingly limitless retribution.
"He sold me a microwave and it doesnt work..."
"Burn his house down!!"
"He murdered 12 children!!"
"Burn his....house...down?"
Awesome.

Can we impose the death penalty?
I need to know my legal options here.

Krusty: I gave him a couple of blintzes to paint my fence, but he
never did it!
Chester: Those blintzes were terrible.
Krusty: Paint my fence!
Chester: Make me!
Krusty: [ jumping on him] You give me back those blintzes!
Judge: Order, order. We don't care about your blintzes.

Cruel and Unusual punishment is perfectly acceptable right? Because then I'm in!

I once purchased a dryer from the bargain finder that claimed to be in good repair, and was only for sale because they bought a matching new set because the washer was toast. Of course, it was in the garage, with no 220 plug, so there was no way to test it.
I paid him something meager like $75 for the thing, and took it home. The thing spun alright, but the heat coil was gone.
I called the guy back and calmly said WTF? His reply "Buyer beware"..Click.
So me and my buddy loaded it back into my truck, drove back to buddy's house, right over the flower garden and onto the lawn and chucked the thing on the other flower garden, and drove off the other side of his lawn. f'r.
As for CP transactions, I've sold a few things on here. Most recently was a treadmill that the buyer is having problems with. I offered to reverse the transaction, and he declined because it's working just well enough. IMHO, between two posters that have been here awhile, there should be a buyer's remorse period.

It it was $ 75.00 I wouldn't be worried.
As stated previously, the cost to buy plus the repair costs would have gotten me a new one with Warranty that I can use.

That's awesome. It's also "seller beware" in situations like that... when the guy is a dick he needs to remember that you still know where he lives.

I must say, this thread is fairly one-sided...
