Why not give Fleury the nod against Norway, Luongo play Switzerland and then Marty gets more rest and plays against the States.

People around the world are going to be stunned when they hear canada 'boo' their own goalie, then it will be explained in 100 different languages. I like that.

Most countries don't boo - they whistle.

Babcock just said in an interview that it is to give Brodeur some extra rest and also since the Olympics are in Vancouver, he wanted Luongo to dress opening night.

Actually they do, not sure about Everton fans though.

I've been to England games at Old Trafford, and drank in the pub beforehand with a bunch of Liverpudlians, all of whom were completely fine with cheer on Beckham and the rest of the United players for a day.

During the semi-final of the last World Cup of hockey Luongo played awesome against the Czecks and helped Canada reach the final against Finland.

I'm a Flames fan, but, I'm a proud Canadian first. I was chanting LOUUUU during the semi-final and booing Kipper in the final.

Even if the entire Team Canada roster was made up of players from only the Oilers and Canucks I would still be cheering for Canada!

This is Canada.

This is for the Gold Medal in the Olympics.

Go Canada Go!

I actually have a feeling that Fleury will start against Switzerland and then Brodeur will play the rest of the games. Unless he craps the bed against the US.

I'm shocked this is news to some people. It was admitted weeks ago that each guy would get one game. I thought it was old news.

Yup. Original plan was to go Brodeur-Luongo-Brodeur (for the rest of the tourney). Now it seems Luongo-Brodeur-Brodeur(rest of the tourney).

Babcock said tonight that he gave Luongo the 1st start because Brodeur needs to rest after playing a lot and he needs to be ready for the rest of the tournament. He also said that Luongo should get to play because it's his home rink and he wanted him to be in on opening night.

I agree play the third string goalie for the first game to just get it out of the way so when you need to win an important game you don't have to just play Luongo for the Vancouver fans.

^This. How about we all put aside our NHL rivalries for the next 2 weeks and cheer on our fellow COUNTRY men. I think it was a no brainer to start Luongo tonight. Home town arena. Canada's first men's hockey game. The atmosphere will be electric! I know I'm super pumped!!!

Nothing to worry about, they're giving Luongo the easy game to start. By the time Canada vs. USA rolls around it'll be Brodeur's show.
