Wow that sucks, but he didn't help his cause, by smoking so much. My cousin in Seattle was one of his doctors (Oral Surgeon). He actually gave him some news about his condition on one episode over the phone.

Are they going to bury him at sea? Seems fitting to feed the fish, crab, etc with his remains... Bring it all full circle

Crazy. I was watching an eipisode yesterday where his son was worried about him not eating so he cooked up a whole package of Jimmy Dean breakfast sausages and put them between two pieces of white bread.

I don't profess to know anything about the guy, i've seen the show maybe 2 times with him on it, but from what I saw, to me he seemed like that kind of guy that his job was his life. He doesn't seem like the type to gracefully retire and then go golfing every day. He was meant to be on the high seas, and that's it.

Yeah, I basically get that impression too. Imagining Captain Phil anywhere other than that chair yelling at people just does not compute.
He was going to be doing that until either he died or there was nothing left to fish for. It was a war of attrition he was just never going to win.

In an industry like the one he was working in, a death by natural causes is probably a win on its own - too many people get killed fishing for crab like that. It's not the world's most dangerous job for nothing.

Discovery to do a special series on the man.

The Discovery Channel announced today that it will air a series of specials that'll pay tribute to Captain Phil Harris, the beloved star of "Deadliest Catch" who died February 9 after suffering a stroke while off-loading his crab fishing vessel Cornelia Marie in Alaska

I think it was last nights show where he said he didn't have much time left. He probably spoke those words within a month or two of dying. Sad.

More like days. He died on Feb. 9th....and was offloading opilios when it happened. Opie season opened Jan 6th IIRC and he had been at sea for 3 weeks when the offload happened.
He didnt look good for sure and last nights episode you just knew it was the beginning of the end.
Sad for sure, but he certainly lived life to its fullest.

Has anyone been watching "After the Catch" immediately following the show each of the last 5 weeks?
Great TV. The first ten minutes of this weeks episode had me bawling. Literally. Powerful stuff. Real.

I haven't watched after the catch, but just knowing what happens makes watching the show tough (in a good way). It is so sad to watch Jake Harris with his issues and of course Josh as well. The other Jake is also really sad to watch although I don't actually know what happened or happens in the end there...just have a bad feeling obviously.
That show is just so good though! The work they do is amazing never mind the human drama that plays out.

They showed the episode tonight during his last days with him dying in the end. They aired it on Tuesday, but I missed it. I have to say, it was really emotional. Really hit home on a few levels with me. Next Tuesday, there's an episode of the other crews reacting to the news as well as a tribute to Phil after that starting at 9 ET. Not sure if the listings are different in Canada, but thought I'd post for those interested.
