There were 3 movies made? I only saw the first one when I was a teenager so I thought it was awesome. Probably would not have the same effect now, except for the boobs of course.
Movie factoid, if you are going to get a chick to take off her shirt for a movie...
A - make sure the chick is hot
B - make sure we want to see what is underneath the shirt.
C - Why didnt the much hotter chick take off her shirt
Its also really funny after you see that movie and then watch the Firefly TV series where all the alliance military is in the exact same outfit as Starship Troopers.
I personally love this movie.

Wasn't the whole premise of the movie that the entire thing was actually a propaganda film?
Parts of it were suppossed to be propaganda films. The video advertisments that were put throughout it on the news net. But the background was that behind the scenes the war was going terribly wrong.
I always thought that one of the big inconsistancies was the first invasion of Planet P with the reporter there, and humanity had basically had their butts kicked in and they showed that defeat on the news net.
The logic would have been the supression of the press, or even the government pulling in more power through something like the War Measures Act.
When the bug meteor hit Earth though that was a brilliant illustration of using propaganda to stir up the population.
They certainly could have done more to show the facist elements of humanities government like they did in the first classroom scene with the discussion of the vets taking control and one of my personal beliefs that naked violence has solved more of humanities problems then diplomacy, but then the film would have been entirely too dark going from a service guarantees citizen ship concept to why mankind fights aggressive wars.

I think that the main reason that I didn't like it was not just that it wasn't as good as the book, but that it didn't bear all that much resemblance to the book.
I just watched it two weeks ago, I was SO excited to find it for $4.99 at walmart. It was one of those movies that you just needed to turn your brain off and enjoy it, not all movies are meant to be thinkers.
Oh god, somebody kill it. This franchise needs to get seriously rebooted and remade properly.
...and then you go ahead and and bring out the best thing that came of the last two movies
But yeah, I think it did sort of bomb, mostly because the humour is way too complicated and most people just totally missed the point I guess. And yeah, the point about "too serious to be funny, too funny to be serious" is pretty much on the mark too. It's cooler to think and talk about than it is actually to watch.
Funnily enough, in my experience "the average joe" understood what the catch was much better than most "critics" or "experienced movie fans" did, which is why it bombed pretty bad in the reviews, at least originally.
The second and third movie are straight-to-video I'd guess. The second is just terrible. Obviously even the people who made that movie didn't really get what was good about the first movie.
The third is actually not bad as a B-movie, it has some pretty good scenes... well mostly I really dug the ending. It's pretty disturbing in that cool/interesting/funny way that you can only get in B-movies. Well worth watching if you liked the first one and don't set your expectations too high.
