No I meant that there's 2 different instances where Jesus fees a group of people. One starts in Mark 6:32 and the other starts in Mark 8:1. Rather than two different accounts, it's possible they are actually accounts of the same event passed down through two different oral traditions.

Just one example supporting the idea of being assembled from oral traditions, there's others too but I forget it it's been quite a while since I read about it, I'd have to try and find it.

Oh that's interesting. Yeah, as I've said before, I'm not a dogmatist, more of a Platonic theist of sorts, so I have personally never been threatened by this type of thing.

Can be, but I try to keep myself even without too much emotion regardless of how someone else goes.

There's a whole forum for that, and no one says participation in a thread is mandatory. Some people like to discuss it.

Nor should you be, I think Textcritic is similar in that his faith isn't smashed to pieces just because there's a flaw in the source material.

There's a number of clergy in various denominations who's stuff I've read that I really like, because they are honest with the material and don't feel threatened by the idea of problems in transmission or even with the autographs.

It's sort of like the longest and lengthest game of "telephone" in history.

I actually think you do a very good job.

I prefer to stay out of these discussions, as they get emotional as hell(hah), but I do love reading them.

One problem I've always had is that the Bible is without error. The 'unaltered' word of God.

There are some pretty good versions of the old testament that have some good analysis under each paragraph describing where the scholars believe the information came from. Some things like Adam and Eve are likely taken from old folklore from India. The version most often found in Reform Judaism is packed with cool information. Some stories involve someone with a bunch of children, and the children's names happen to be phonetically very close to ancient towns archaeologists have discovered (in other words, the towns were memorialized into a story in the way the stars in the sky are named in Astrology). There is though a line in the old testament that most scholars say is a change from mythology (flood, Eden, etc.) to actual oral history (kings, battles, etc). Once the book is into the oral history, there are stories laced throughout it that are likely simply 'lessons' placed in the known history of the world. There is also debate about the writers, with two different people identified as having written the old testament, based on writing styles and other things. The book is also filled with numerology as well as errors.

It is actually very interesting to read in this context, yet some people still read it all as fact.
