In my princess-like experience, it's best to stay away from spring mattresses. They sag far too easily. Check out foam or latex mattresses.

bought one of these from Sleep Country ... tons of great info in this thread on what you should pay, etc (basically start at half the asking price and go from there):

http://forums.redflagdeals.com/kings...ountry-573270/

Also, Sleep Country does have a great warranty program - 10 years. Just recently my buddy had a mattress from there for 7 years and one of the springs went sideways. They sent an inspector out who verified that it was broken and refunded him the full price he original paid after 7 years... made him a life long customer.

Old thread, but a bump beats a new one...

Anyone have any recent dealings picking up a mattress that can shed some light on the process or where to go? I'm in the market for a new mattress/boxspring and was wondering if there were any solid recommendations out there.

Recently (last month) bought a Tempur-pedic bed from Sleep Country (130th Ave SE).

Ask for Courtney. She was great to deal with.

Very happy with our purchase.

My SO got one from the Bay and it wasn't a bad price. Delivery was a little bit of a pain as they were super booked up for some odd reason (took almost 4 weeks) and the mattresses were at the warehouse and not the actual location so we couldn't pick it up ourselves.

I bought from Novosbed (online only). Highly recommended to look into them if you want memory foam bed for cheaper. They ship you a box barely bigger than the size of a laundry basket (air completely squeezed out). Then you remove it from the bag and let it sit for a few hours for it to "reinflate". I had mine sent to my house and instructed them to leave it outside my door. I could have probably sent it to my work place and just tossed it into my car if necessary. Send it back for free if you're not happy with it. They will pick up and deflate for you I think.

Bed box... are a bit more difficult to transport. I can load a queen size mattress into a van, but not a double sized bed box if this illustration helps.

And in all seriousness, you're being hosed hardcore if you are not getting at least 50%-60% off at sleep country. There's even forums about how to get the price down. No need to be a master at lying (though it helps to expedite the process) or negotiation. My SO and I literally sat on a bed we liked and chatted about random stuff (life, love, entertainment systems, sports, whatever) for an hour and just said stuff like, "We like it, but it's out of our budget" for an hour to the salesmen. They knocked the price down 50% on their own, but I hear you can reach up to 70% off at sleep country. If they ask you to try a lower model in the right price range, just do the same and when they approach say, "Hmm... I like the original one better." and after 5-10 mins, wander back to the original bed you want. The bed we were targetting was like $2200 original price and it got down to $1150 with no bed box but still with free delivery (bed box is worth $50 to them, but it's much more than that if you try and buy it later). They'll try to play with stuff like delivery etc, but just be adamant on a number around 60-70% off for the whole set (other forums will explain it more). I never made it to my goal of $1000 (mattress + bed box) so I walked. Novosbed was way cheaper for a memory foam. Paid $800 for a queen with no bed box I think and it arrived in a week or so.

A bed box is useful. I thought I was going to grab a random one on my own afterwards... I never did due to pain in the ass delivery. Get the annoyance out in one go if you can. Likely, you will have to find a way to have someone there to watch over the delivery on the delivery date unless you're ok with then just leaving it on a driveway or front door or something.

I'll never buy another 'normal' mattress again. By 'normal' I mean coils, padding, fabric, etc...

We bought a king sized memory foam mattress from Costco.ca about 3 years ago for $600.

Absolutely fantastic. Comfy yet firm and doesn't get too hot like earlier memory foam mattresses did.

It doesn't have any room in it to collect dead skin cells and hasn't sagged at all (I'm not a small man).

Highly recommend them, especially from Costco with their superb return policy.

+1 for Costco. Good prices on great mattresses.

Whatever you do though, avoid The Brick at all costs.
That's all I have to add.

One other place to look is the Sears Outlet by Heritage & Deerfoot. I was surprised it was still open when the wife suggested it, and there was more salespeople than customers when we went. But they had all the big names (Sealy, Simmons, etc) and we got them down on a $1600 mattress to ~$900. Night and day getting a new mattress, I've been waking up feeling a million times better.

Two Recommendations:
Halstead in Deerfoot Meadows. Bought a natural latex mattress from them 5+ years ago. They will not lose shape or sag or anything for years and years. You get to choose your firmness , thickness, etc. It's custom made for you. 100% worth the money. You won't be replacing it anytime soon, so it's worth the investment.
Black Sheep Mattress Company - http://www.blacksheepmattress.com/ - we bought a pillow from them and it's the greatest pillow I've ever used! I imagine their beds are just as good. Everything is made in Calgary. Well worth looking into.

Just remember that you use your bed more than anything else in your house - don't cheap out on it!

Just bought a bed from sleep county and they were pretty good to deal with. Price of the king was 3800 and paid 2200. After reading this I think I could have got it way lower though. Fack

There's a company called "Mattress Girls and Guys" (with independent sales people). I have not seen or heard of better deals on all the usual names of mattresses. They cost so much less because they buy the beds that hotels have left when they over-order (which is apparently very frequently). The salesperson in Calgary is Deanna (403-861-8655). Not pushy, there's very little negotiating because the price is already so low.

We've bought three beds from her over the years. All have been excellent and all three were queens/kings (Sealy) under $1,000. We bought a king sized pocket coil Sealy for I think it was $950. I rarely make these kinds of referrals but I like to support good business when I come across it. If you're looking for memory foam she doesn't have it though, I hate that stuff so didn't matter to me.
