ok i dont know if this is gonna make sense so bear with me . I noticed a lot today when i was doing stick and puck that i didnt skate much with the blade of my skated vertical ... It always seems like i was skating on the inside edge even when just skating and not using a stick...
Could this be causing my pain and how do i rectify this?
Are you sure your skates are the right size? Skate size does not equal shoe size. iirc Easton fits about 1-1.5 sizes smaller than shoe size.
How tight do you do them up?
If you skates are the right size and you are doing them up reasonably tightly this could be a result of your arch collapsing. If you are skating on the inside of your skate that could cause the pain you are feeling on the outside of your foot as well.
you push off with the inside of blade. you should be gliding with the blade vertical. and you should be using the outside edge on turns.
are you wearing the correct size? with skate on, squat with knees over toes and butt over heels. this should pull your heel back into the cup. toes should be lightly 'brushing' the toe cap.
also, if skates are too wide, you will collapse in ward. when standing, you should be vertical.
is sharpening centered? look down the length of blade. first, see if blade is straight. skating in public sessions (laps) will cause the blade to curve over time. so, make sure your blades are straight. have sharpener straighten for you, if not. hollow (either v or u shaped) should be centered. look down length of blade and make sure that the hollow is centered.
are blades mounted straight? look down the toe and heel, blade/holder should be centered. check if blade itself is vertical. one trick, though it does not always work, is to see if the skate can balance on its blade.
About the pain, this happens because the boot does not flex as much as your everyday shoe. You may try baking the skate to re-mold the quarter panels and get a more custom fit. try this:
also, not skating for a while, your foot is not used to the stiffness of boot, so it will hurt the first few times you skate.

Ok here is the deal , my skates might be a little big for me. I have been wearing a size 12 shoe since high school. So when my wife bought my skates for me she bought a 10.5. My toe is not grazing the end. I measured my foot today when buying new shoes. I am now almost a 11.5.
However I will also note that the ball of my right foot is also really sore right behind my big toe. Same foot that the outside of it hurts. I used to have problems with my feet when I was younger so I think I might go to a podiatrist next week. Maybe I can get some inserts made. I seem to remember having flat arches when i was younger and having to wear heel cups. I think that is what it was. This is only on the right foot though , my left foot has no problems!
It seems like I might have to get fitted for some new skates .... However I can tell ya , I am really weird with my feet covered. I love wearing sandles, when i wear shoes it feels like my feet are claustrophobic. Its quite weird but anyhow thanks for all your suggestions .

Well i went to the podiatrist today .. bad news.. I have a fractured bone in my foot ..its in the ball of foot which explains the pain. It also seems to have made me over correct while skating and running and putting more pressure on the outside of my right foot. This is causing the pain there... I am getting some inserts and something else to alleviate the pressure on the ball of foot so I can still skate

Nope no bunion, he just said the reason my foot hurt on the outside is prob because when i was skating i was trying to over compensate for the fracture ( when it was hurting) and put more weight on the outside of my foot. Thus causing the pain.

Funny how that happens. I knew a few guys who played hockey on broken legs that they thought were bad bruises. One was a goalie.
Another guy went to get an x-ray for a bruised tailbone and found out that he had a broken hip that had been healed for a few years and thinking back, he knew exactly the hit that caused it and who did it.
Me, I don't wait. I get checked out right away because I'm a wuss. Or smart.

Well I have played sports for years. I was always taught to think whether it was just pain or an actual injury. I was just thinking it was pain and nothing else. It didnt stop me from doing anything, I just thought man this hurts. Man playing in goal with a broke leg.... YIKES!
