Reminds me of my buddy who got fired from some Italian joint on 17th. The next day it burned down. He also laughed.

Even if you could go back, would you really want to? There are tons of bars and restaurants in the city (you get the last laugh). If you have the experience (which you obviously do) finding another one shouldn't be too hard. Pay shouldn't be an issue, aren't they all minimum wage with the overhead made on tips?

I was warned about eating the left-overs when I was a dishwasher at Chi-Chi's, and St. Hubert's BBQ. This was before the internets.

When I worked at Earl's they had a really strict policy against eating food that was cooked wrong/burnt etc. They would throw the food in the garbage rather than let an employee have it....if you wanted the burnt crappy/ poorly made food you had to pay full price for it.

But to answer your question, unless they fire you cause youre black or gay, you cant really do anything about it.

Its their hot restaurant, they can do what they want!

Sounds similar to my situation. They said I was ringing in doubles after charging customers for two individual shots. Every bartender knows this trick, but I am an honest guy and never did it. They said they had documentation of me doing this, but when I asked to see it they said they were not allowed to show me (which seemed ridiculous).

I wouldn't want to go back, but it was actually a really nice job at an upper end restaurant downtown. It was a great job, awesome money and perfect as a part time job. They always seemed really happy with me, giving me good shifts and I got along well with everybody else who worked there. It was just really abrupt and surprising and since the reasoning seemed so shady. I had asked for a raise about two days ago, and when they asked me to come in this morning I thought it I was going to get a pay increase, not a kick out the door.

My 2 cents

I believe integrity and reputation is something that one should always protect and it irked me to have someone accused you of stealing when you didn't (I'm assuming you're innocent), especially if they claim proof but don't show it
I would be very upset if I was in your position, mainly since I have undergone a security clearance and the RCMP looks pretty far back into my past. If they would have uncovered I was let go for stealing (and I was innocent), it may reflect badly on my character reference
Anyways, I'm just argumentative and not good at taking criticism, but maybe you want to go with that thought, and say you take the accusation very seriously as it may affect your career (say law, government...etc) and that if they don't show the proof, you'll be force to pursue other means.
Layoff because they want to reduce their payroll I can understand, but a false charge is something I wouldn't go down without a fight

but that's just me

If you want some answers and you are completely confident you didn't have any wrong doing, perhaps you can

Yes even Khan

In the early thirteenth century, Muhammad the Shah of Khwarezm made the grave mistake in offending a new tribal leader who was emerging in the east. His name was Genghis Khan. Khan offered to share the Silk Route with Muhammad, sending ambassadors to forge a deal. After his ambassadors were beheaded, Genghis Khan declared war. Eventually his forces seized the capital of the Shah’s empire, Samarkand. Muhammad fled, and the Silk Route fell into the hands of Genghis Khan.
