picked it up last night and played for 20 minutes. I have to say the graphics are pretty good for the 360 at least in my opinion. Looking forward to playing more today.

Sunk about 4 hours in so far...
Living up to my very high expectations! The battles are very straightforward for the first 2 and a half hours or so, then things open up like crazy after that. Fast paced, fun, lots of strategy... I'm enjoying it a lot. The story and characters aren't nearly as sappy as the trailers made it look either. Visually stunning game as well, and some solid orchestrated music.

Thanks for the update guys, I'll be picking this up this week.
I've played the series since game #1 on the NES and officially fell in love with it with #2/4 on the SNES. Some weak titles in the middle (7-8) but #12 was awesome and have high hopes for this version. Hopefully I am not disappointed.
I loved how they redid combat in 12 so it was real time (more or less) but still menu based. It's hard to see how they have the combat rigged on this one from the previews. Hopefully it is similar.

I wasn't gonna get it, because I really hated FF12 (the first of the FFs that I didn't like) but I think i am changing my mind.

Hmmm, 12 is my all time fav, and before that it was #2/4 so I was holding on to that one for a while. 3/6 Was also very good.
Nothing against what you are saying, just wondering why you didn't like 12?

I found it really boring and the combat really crappy. The story just wasn't very engaging.
FF2 and 3 (NA versions, not the Jappo versions) are my favourite FFs. I loved 7 too, just not as much. I must have played FF2 15 times since I was 8 years old.

Yeah, 2 and 3 (NA) were my faves for a very long time. I actually thought 7 was the worst of the bunch. Everything was so path driven. After coming out of the 2D envivronments where you could explore and talk to everyone, the nicer graphics in 7 kept you in scenes and environments where you could really only walk down two or three paths and that was boring to me. I preferred the 2D graphics if it meant you could explore towns and areas (and the world). It was funny because 7 was built up so much, it being the first cross platform, first under the same English and Jappo release, and was so many people's first taste of the franchise and everyone thought it was amazing and I thought it was average at best.
12 brought back true exploration for me, so that was a big plus. Probably the biggest reason why I didn't like the games 7+ as much as the ones before them. I liked the changes in combat, but I understand how one might not. As for the story I thought it was quite good, a little more adult than many of the last. A little more political, at least in the beginning. But storyline is obviously subjective too.
I also own the 2/4, 5, and 3/6 on the PS bundle packs (one came with Chrono Trigger too, another great game. Those are classics.

I think I'll be waiting till schools done to touch this title. not as big on the reviews as I thought it would turn out.
FF3, and Chrono Trigger are worth revisiting every few years, still easier on the emulator (get it done way faster). FF2 and FF10 were next up in my mind. never touch 12 though

I must say, I am a little put off by the crazy linearity of the beginning, but after reading some reviews, I'm relieved to read that it eventually opens up quite a bit. I'm still only about an hour or so into it, so I can't say too much about the battle system yet except that it's really simple. Again reading in the reviews, this will get a lot more complicated as the game progesses, so definitely looking forward to that.

10 was decent, I still found it a bit too path driven. I think with the launch of their online game in 11, it helped them build a true 3D world that you could explore which is really what sold me in 12.
I wasn't aware so many people disliked 12. I must be the weirdo... lol.
The Playboy bunnies (Viera) in it were a nice touch too...

Yeah I never tried 11 myself. Just meant it probably helped them a lot in making the next games.

I played it, but only because 5 of my friends played and we tried to only play together. But yeah, it was lame and boring if you didn't have a dedicated crew.
Hard as hell too.

Damn. Went out to celebrate a buddies birthday and watch the game tonight. Not saying it's a bad thing, but I guess I need to wait until tomorrow night to try it now.
Plues he won two tickets to the Phoenix game on the 31st at the bar.

I went to Superstore last night (Country Hills) and they didn't have any PS3 copies left. Not a huge deal but I have some PC Points and Superbucks burning a hole in my pocket.

Depended on the time of day. I play FFXI for years, ended up with everything ever done in the game and sold my account to some guy in Singapore for $1400.

I was really stoked to play this game, but my interest waned a little after reading some of the reviews. Although I haven't played all the FFs to completion, I still love the games. I really liked FF10 and FF12, though it irked me a little that SquareEnix built these incredible worlds and the framework of engaging characters only to have the story and characters feel under-developed. I've played 2 hrs of FF13 thus far and I'm pretty sure I'll feel the same way about this game once I'm done
Daradon, if you thinking of buying FF13 for that wide-open FF12 experience, you're likely to be disappointed. The game is supposed to just as linear as FF10 and only busts wide open in Chapter 11 of 13, after about 30hrs in. Although the last 2 Chapters apparently take about another 30hrs to play through if you do side quests, etc.
The one thing that's really hooked me with this game is the detail in the environments. The world of Cocoon is so rich. I really wish that they'd let you explore more in the early sections of the game.

After reading the reviews I was worried about this whole linearity business. But, from the post above, this game is similar to Final Fantasy 10 in that department correct? If so, then I enjoyed that Final Fantasy so I should like this one.

I'm not a FF fan and don't really understand why it's so popular. Anyways I went to Best Buy and they were sold out of FF13 for PS3 and at EB Games I overheard the cashier say they did as much business yesterday as they did on Boxing Day.
