Oh, well, it is just a joke. Flameswin's got a pretty decent sense of humour.
In reality, its sad what happened to this girl, I kind of have to agree with Vlad though, they're being pretty tight-lipped about the whole affair, but hes a Russian lawyer so that says something. Not sure what....

I don't think they were even going to release the fact that she was found hidden in her bed, I believe that was only reported because one of the girls friends was talking to the media and didn't seem to be holding anything back.

That's a pretty romantic notion in theory but regardless of your opinion on cops you have to admit they don't throw 1st degree murder charges around like stunting tickets.

We hear what they want us to hear and if they have enough to charge with 1st degree - this guy's a killer.

^ Yup. As far as I can recall, You don't hear about a whole lot of murder charges that carry the 1st degree. Not in Canada anyway.
Weird Tid-Bit: (does not require the "Cool Story Bro" Picture)
went to my usuall beer store (the mall beside E.P. Scarlet H.S.) tonight, the women at the counter was telling me that the entire staff at the store know the accused very well. She was telling me how shocked they all are because he was "such a great guy". She went on to add "He was always in here with his wife and they always seemed very jovial and happy, I've even seen him in here with 'the girls' and I always assumed he was their father", We've even gone for beers with them over at Austin's".
She's a bit of a talker so I just said "Wow. Unreal" and left.
FWIW: I got in my truck and as I was driving home I just thought about how I've heard some people are able to lead 'double lives', One persona at work and in public and a very different persona behind closed doors at home. I don't know anything about the accused, other than he's not what I'd refer to as a "Great Guy".
I guess we'll hear all about it in the coming Years.

Most murder victims knew their killers so, no, you're not a bad person.

In a court of law a person is innocent until proven guilty. Everywhere else, you're free to go nuts with your opinions.
A court of law found OJ not guilty. I think he's guilty. Sue me.

I don't understand how a defense lawyers can defend scumbags like this, an help their clients concoct stories to either get them off or reduce their sentences. I know we have to have a 'fair' judicial system and all, but really..... how do you defend a piece of garbage knowing he is a piece of garbage, unless you are some sort of piece of garbage as well. I guess someones got to do it, but it takes a special breed.

Lawyer are not allowed to present evidence in court that they know to be false. So it would be the client who would have to make up and tell the story to his lawyer.
And I would rather have the system we have now; as opposed to what we hear of happening 50-150 years ago where if the sherrif thought you were guilty- you were pretty much done.
And here is where I will throw out my usual plug- guys if your wife/ kids/ step kids are pissing you off and you don't know what to do- call 211 and they can direct you to the correct family support group. Asking for help takes a big man to do it; as opposed to what you might think about how it makes you less of a man.
If you are mad, man up and ask for help.

Yeah, I'm sure those rules aren't bent , in almost every single murder trial. If that's the case, criminal defense lawyers have to be the most gullible human beings of all time.
I am sure there is a certain amount of coaching in what they want their clients to and not to tell them.

Everybody is allowed a fair trial. Everybody has a story/excuse - the lawyer just presents it. I know it would be simpler just to hang the guy from a tree, but, for better or worse, we don't live in Nigeria...

Yeah, that's what I've been hearing a lot around the community. He was a really nice guy that people really liked.
It's weird and surreal when you see the girl that you've said hi to hundreds of times at the drug store turn up in the paper as a murder victim.

Its good to see I am the only one here who see Belfour Der for what he is.
Funny I just posted this on the Sarah Rae killing. But it is fit for this topic also.

That Martel guy the murderer is a complete cowardly piece of trash.
Even more so that defence spindoctor Belfour Der JMO is heinous.
Any major crime in Calgary that is commited by people I would consider as having absolutly nothing to contribute to society. He defends them with ruthlessness against the police, the courts and against what is morrally right.

I go to that Rexall almost every day,Although I don't recall seeing her there. I heard on 770 this morning, an interview with a friend of hers that also worked or works part time at the store.
He said she had confided in him several times about on going physical abuse at the hands of her stepfather. The guy (her friend) was obviously upset and said he wishes he had done or said something.
I feel bad for this young guy, I hope he doesn't have any feelings of guilt or responsibility, there's no way anyone can know what effect it would have had even if he did speak out about it.

I've never heard of this guy before, but I saw him on the news last night and I sure won't forget who he is now!
The guy was almost snickering as he explained how tough a position he was in, because of the cel. phone video presented as evidence in the Rae case.

Can it really be plead down to that?
The Cops are saying 1st degree, That holds a significant sentence, But you are suggesting it can be "Bargained" down to Man Slaughter?
I'll be disgusted if it comes down to that, He'll for sure be behind bars for lesss than 3 years if that happens.
