Please don't make the dumb assumption that ever extremist is an idiot that can't read or write. In fact, a large number of insurgents and potential terrorists out there are educated, young, and easily influenced. The Taliban gets hold of an American weapon (which isn't that hard), they notice biblical references on them. They release the information and use it as more propaganda to influence and brain wash people against America and more-so against the West. Little Ali down the street going to college sees this as further evidence that the US is doing nothing more than waging a Holy War while lying in the process.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out this was a bad idea, whether you approve of the war or not.

Do you have to be rude? It was a civilized conversation until you rolled your eyes at me.

I'm not sure what network it was on because I usually don't care what network I'm watching. I WAS going to find it for you, but I think you can find it yourself now.

Oh, but not us Americans! We are religious zealots don't you know! 990/1000 have read the bible and read it every day! We can recite the scripture if you give us one of those codes!

Not the every day American, no. But big business governmental Americans, yes, they are religious. Probably not zealots, at least not all of 'em. See: this military contract for example. It's not as if they DIDN'T just inscribe gun sights with biblical references.

HPLovecraft is simply trolling the thread. Try not to bait him.

Almost no one would see JN8:12 on a guy and think: "hmm, that is oddly familiar to John 8:12...I wonder if that is what that means, or is that just a coincidence; a serial number or some kind of part identification number. I should really get to the bottom of this. This deserves an investigation."

You're allowed to argue with me Displaced Flames Fan... I'm not going to get offended.

And I'm hardly trolling. I don't troll threads. Is that what passes on CP for a troll nowadays, a differing take on a matter? Yeesh.

I just seen a photo (video, actually) of where the reference is at, and no, it is not buried in a serial number. It comes right after ACOG4x32 (the sight). Anybody that knows a thing about weapons might look at that and wonder what the hell JN8:12 means when it has no reference to the sight itself.

So instead of the serial number, it looks like part of a model number is what you're saying? I see.

So "ACOG4x32JN8:12" yeah that would trigger many people interest.

Actually, if it were in the serial number, I bet someone would notice. When I was in the army, we had to memorize our rifle serial number. I'm sure I had to write down my optical sight serial number a few times too.

Even if someone noticed it, what are they suppsed to say? Am I supposed to go to my platoon commander and say, "Sergeant, I think there is an old testament inscription on my optics?" Get real.

Now all this stuff about John 8:12 got my curiosity up... so I googled it and here it is:

John 8:12
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Wow, thats certainly some heavy stuff.

No, it doesn't look like part of the model number.

4x32 means the magnification of the scope and diameter of the lens. Basically, if a soldier (American, Iraqi, or Afghani) or a hunter wants to actually use his weapon in an aggressive and effective manner, he needs to know the abilities of the scope he has chosen. So they look at the number on the scope.

ACOG4x32JN8:12

Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight, 4x magnification, 32mm objective lens, Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. John 8:12

The scope magnifies light going into it? Get it? Haha! But that would seriously make more sense on a flashlight or something.

Exactly, I wouldn't have ever thought that JN3.16 was a biblical verse

Anymore then I would have wondered what the inscription ANCPRV 25 on our radios ment or the PHTDPLY 2248 inscribed on the box of toilet paper ment.

While people are detail oriented, they're certainly not that detail oriented.

Or just don't care.

Does the gun sight work . . . check hey sarge this JN3.16 kicks ass, I think its been blessed by god himself.

What it's saying is that Jesus is the light for the scope and by using it, looking through it and following it, the soldier will have the light of life...

But yeah, it totally looks like a model number to me, but I guess I'm just an uneducated idiot. ACOG4x32 are the specs, sounds like what follows would be a model number.

Mountains out of mole hills.

I am just wondering how many of the same people dismissing this would care if it were discovered that the Islamic jihadists or insurgents in those countries had their guns inscribed with Sura codes before using them.

Or if Canadian or American soldiers had their guns inscribed with Sura codes by a company without anyone knowing instead of Christian codes, would it matter then?
