I guess my second question now is...where can I get parts for this thing? I've checked with Long and McQuade, Guitarworks, some little guitar shop in Crowfoot Crossing...I looked on Ebay a bit and Kijiji, and it seems like there's nothing. I'm gonna put up an ad on Kijiji but if you guys have any leads that'd be outstanding. I need the top piece of the bridge, the pick guard and the covers for the tuning pegs. And maybe an old set of pick ups too just in case that one is buggered. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You're not going to be able to get exact parts for it. I have an early 80s Japanese guitar and there's no way to get parts for it anymore.

For most guitars unless it's a really common model (Strat/Les Paul Variant), parts are just not available, especially for something 40 years old. The only thing is to wait around on ebay to see if something pops up but I've only seen bits from my guitar come up on ebay once in 4 years (I have a saved search).

If you want new parts they will have to be custom made from as similar parts as you can find from other models.

Here's what you can do easily:

- Grab a bridge cover from another similar type. The pickups look standard and should be able to be changed by any guitar shop. Unscrew the screws around the pick-up surround cover and it comes out.

- Since it's a fender clone headstock, just grab some strat compatible tuners and replace the ones you have

- The pick guard will have to be custom made. Make a drawing of the dimensions or get good pictures of what you want and look for one of the online places that make custom pick guards (not too expensive, they just layer a few pieces and cut them out and drill holes). That said, it doesn't look like it originally had a pick-guard so I would not get one. Do you want to drill holes into that hollow body? No!

Okay cool. And it most definitely did have a pick guard at some point, as there's a hole drilled where it would have been connected and a little screw still on the side of the body that could only have been for a pickguard.

That's crappy that you can't find anything like that anywhere....I wonder if it'd be worth it to try get in touch with the actual company?

It's not really worth it to find OEM parts. Most of these companies haven't produced these models for 30 years and most don't exist anymore. It's like going to GM to ask for parts for a 1969 Deville. You can make due with parts from other guitars. Just put a pickguard from a Gibson EP guitar.

In the guitar world if you want readily available parts, you have to go with a common guitar type or custom work usually. That's what makes it fun too since these things are basically just wood and electronics. You can do this stuff in your own garage.

You're in luck that your guitar is basically a clone of a more common type model. Just use parts from other hollow body EPs.

BTW, your guitar might not be Kawai. Might be a Teisco Del Rey EP-8T (which was another Japanese clone)

So you could search http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=teisco

Here's a new bridge

Looks like a Saturn guitar to me. My buddy has one that is similar. My first guitar was a Saturn stratocastor knock off. I personally like the holobody Saturn more. Cool guitar man.

Personally my guitar and amp collection is embarassing for someone who doesn't play in a band.

It could be a ton of different things really. Japan in the 70s is like China of today - cloning everything (before the American guitar companies brought a lawsuit). The only difference is that instead of shoddy chinese labor, they brought amazing Japanese worksmanship to everything.

Many guitar companies made complete and near perfect copies of popular Fender and Gibson models.
