Agreed on all accounts. My brother-in-law is a pro and even when he's using a crappy little pocket P&S camera or phone camera his shots are awesome. It's definitely the artist bringing the talent which is likely the bulk of what makes a good photo. The rest is technique and tool. The tool portion being the smallest portion.
