Yeah I was more trying to share some knowledge than anything, and I stated I wasn't able to access the article right off the bat so I didn't know specifics of the case.
I will just give one case that I am sure everyone who has lived in Calgary has read about, that is the case involving Cole Harder who was the two year old who was murdered by his father who then killed himself. Around three months before the murder occured there was an incident. The mother has been estranged from the father (often the cases in domestic murder cases by the way) but she allowed him to stay at their place until he was able to get back on his feet. One night he enterer her room and tired to duct tape her mouth shut, she was able to rip the duct tape off, and she started to scream. In order to keep her quiet or shut her up he shoved his full fist into her mouth. He managed to bite his hand so that he would stop choking her and she managed to do just that. After this he strangled her until she was unconscious (only takes 10 seconds to render someone unconscious by the way and only 11 pounds of pressure needs to be exerted on the carotid arteries). When she woke up she was faced with a decision as to what to do, as she also had a child in the house. She amde the decision to bolt to the door. The father caught up to her and they wrestled and actually went down a flight of stairs. She was then strangled again until she was unconscious. During this time she pushed her head down so much that she actually caused her chin to bruise in order to save herself. When she awoke once again she ran to the neighbors and called the police... she was hystarical (for obvious reasons - she was just about killed and she didn't know the health of her child). The police officers didn't believe her as there were no real outword signs of injuries right away (bruises take time to develop) on her, but there were bite marks on the hands of the father.... who was in the house rocking the child.
Three months later he killed the child and then he killed himself. this is a way to common story
Just a few very frightening statistics regarding domestic violence in Alberta..... 5,194 women recieved shelter, 5,446 children recieved shelter in Emergancy shelters.... while 8,443 women were turned away and 9,017 childern were turned away.
Thosea re statistics for 2002.
