Obviously, take your laptop, camera, etc. but I'd shove the cords, chargers, and other accessories into your checked bag. My old habit was to keep them in the carry-on bag, but really - they're usually pretty useless on the plane anyway.

I thought the same as you until I got delayed in LAX with my power cords in my chegged baggage that was already en-route to Calgary.
Sitting in the airport was fine for the first 2 hours until the battery died.....
