I was spanked, mostly by my father, and I think he went a bit overboard with it.
I think if done reasonably it's fine.

Does anyone remember that dreaded walk you would have to make when you knew you were gonna get spanked by the spoon. I just remember tears flowing when I was a young lad making that walk because you knew you could run and hide but in the end you were still gonna get spanked.
I'm all for it!

Oh ya, the good ol' wooden spoon. It's funny though... I think most people around my age had gotten the wooden spoon at least a few times, but when I tell people a few years younger than me about it, they act horrified. Honestly, I don't think it was bad at all.
One time though, I did something bad at school and knew the teacher was going to call home, so when I got home, the first thing I did was hide all the wooden spoons. What I didn't think of was that that the next closest thing was a spatula. After that, I never hid another wooden spoon again!

I was (rarely) spanked and turned out pretty well IMO. However, my parents never spanked hard enough to cause any actual harm, and it was pretty rare (threats of getting spanked were usually enough). I suspect a lot of the problems arise from parents who don't hold back, or lose their tempers, or spank all the time.

Lets see
Mom used the wooden spoon.
the nuns used the blackboard pointer
In school it was the strap across the hand.
My dad used the belt.
I remember I got in trouble and my sister encouraged me to put a hardcover book down the back of my pants. Then I marched down to get my medicine. My dad reared back and the leather belt cracked across my book (Richard Scary's halloweentown I thnk) and made a sound like a shotgun blast. I started laughing cause it sounded awesome but didn't hurt, he looked at me and he started laughing. then he made me go out and clear every sidewalk on our street.

I was stupider at 18 than 16.

My parents spanked me a handful of times, but in the end I don't think it was as often as I thought. All they had to do was get the idea in my head that I COULD be spanked. Knowing you would be spanked was much worse then the spanking itself....I remember there was nothing as terrifying as having to be in the corner staring at the wall, on my knees, waiting for my dad to come home after I did something bad. The psychological torture I put myself through was way worse than anything my parents could've done.
I hope to employ several of their fun techniques if i ever get a chance!

I actually don't care one way or the other. Some thing hitting their kids is OK, some think it's barbaric.
As long as the option is available, I'm happy. I've never found spanking a child to be necessary, but I shouldn't be barred from doing should the need arise. Life has taught me that **Sometimes** physical confrontation is the answer, but also that those moments exceptionally rare.

Nothing was funnier then when the wooden spoon broke! Until you realized there was a second one and laughing had made your mother angrier!

I grew up just fine for the most part. Through I got beat by kendal sticks as well as bambo sticks growing up. My grandma beat me every time I used my Left hand for anything.
I kinda blame her for me being Ambidexterity. I still use my left for everything but writing and eating, thats about it.
