i just remembered that some of my friends are attending a wedding today, and judging by how it looks outside it's a great day for a wedding.

A wedding on Friday the 13th? Way to thumb your nose at superstition!

hmmm just a question, do they still skip the 13th floor in buildings? or is that one dead? and if they do is it only the number or do they actually leave the thirteenth floor vacant? I know its a dumb question but i havent been in a high rise in long long time.

Alot of the time they will make the 13th floor a mechanical room floor, so nobody will have to work/live on that floor.

I live in a new neighbourhood that is totally developed, except for one lot that sticks out like a sore thumb. It has been for sale for almost 2 years now.
The address? 666 Cougarstone Drive.

Which is funny as you can actually do something with Land Titles to change your house number, as long as it falls within range of your neighbors (ie if your neighbors are 663 and 669 you could choose 668). Lots of Asian families do this to avoid the #4 which is bad in that culture.

Dunno if they still do it, but my buddy used to live on 14, which was actually 13...it was so annoying to have that number missing on the elevator panel!

Not many buildings have the "13" labeled as "13".
But it just so happens on Friday the 13th, Im stuck at work till 9, on the 13th floor of the Energy PLaza!!! (and its actually labeled 13 too!!)

Fri. 13 doesn't bother me, but if it bothers you then it may effect you. A job I had working with the drinking public made me aware of Fridays as they are busy and if you think 13 is unlucky, well maybe for you it is. Full moons on Friday were the worst. It is also national lefthanders day.

I think I read in a Guiness Book of World Records a couple of years ago that the 13th falls on Friday more than any other day, with Sunday second. Also stated was the loss of hundreds of millions in commerce due to absentees, 'sick' days, etc., as mentioned above.

Indeed.
If you go to a city with a large asian population (Vancouver or Toronto), the residential apartment complexes all skip the 4th and 13th floors.
Asians consider the number 4 bad because the word four in chinese is also the same word for "death" except with a different tone... kinda similar to words like "bear" and "bare" in English which sound the same but have different meanings.
What's silly to me is wouldn't the people who live on the 5th and 14th floors know that they actually live on the 4th and 13th floors??

I think that would be the people on the 5th and 15th floors, not 14th.

Actually, you're right! I forgot to mention that 14 is also a bad number for asians, because it means "certain death".
I guess you're chinese..?

No no, what he meant was because you already skipped a floor (the 4th), then skipped another (the 13th), the floor you label as 15th is actually the 13th floor.
