I could give a fata about any moral obligation of paying a parking ticket. What you obviously do not realize is that in most cases, not paying any fine will eventually catch up with you (likely at the worst time) and end up costing you much more than had you dealt with it when you were suppose to.
I will be the one laughing my arse off when I see you in the waiting line at the registery trying to register your vehicle or renewing your licence and you have to pay late fees and a lot more than you thought you would have to pay. Or, maybe you won't even have the money to pay for your tickets then and you will not be able to renew your licence, I have seen that happen at registeries. Or maybe when you go to get some kind of loan, the parking authority has sent your unpaid bills to collections and you can no longer get the loan you were looking for because of what? A parking ticket that you got (which means you either broke the law or violated someones private parking laws) and you thought the smart thing to do would be to ignore it, it will just go away.
Thats great for people like you but don't start spreading stupid advise like that around to other people. And if you do have children I feel bad for them that their parent cannot teach them the importance of being accountable. Way to go #1 DAD.

Truthfully I'm not sure what you were supposed to do in that instance. I'm part of the "you do the crime you do the time" crowd, but I also believe you have the right to at least give your side of the story. I would imagine if you produced proof that you have a parking spot and explained the situation is a respectful manner you would have a leg to stand on.

I think you have a better case going to the guy who parked in your spot (or a condo/apt board who is in charge of parking) and asking him to pay the ticket for you.

I wasn't smart enough to mark down his license plate unfortunately. Oh well, if I lose then too bad. Just a shame the only time I can fight it is in May and I'm not even sure I'll be there then.

Someone did that to me when I lived in an apartment years ago. I was more than happy to use my connections with the local tow truck operator to rectify that right away.

As others have indicated, you don't really have a leg to stand on here.
I'm on the condo board at my complex. Calgary Parking Authority has told us that the correct thing to do if this happens is to call them and they can ticket/tow the vehicle for you but you'll likely need to show them proof you live at that unit. (Bills, address on your drivers license, etc). This is assuming your complex has adequate signage up.
I'm sure the rules would be similar in Edmonton???
Unfortunately, it usually takes them a while to get to where you are so you might have to wait around a bit...

I got a parking ticket from the city when I parked on a public street (4m from a fire hydrant not 5... s) and never paid.
I have registered my vehicle twice since then and never got a single warning. I will never pay a parking ticket until I get a warning or two. There's no point. Risk 10 or 15 bucks for the chance of saving 50 or whatever the fee is.

I usually just fill out the administrative review form at the Calgary Parking Authority website, for some reason whoever reviews that stuff always gives me the benefit of the doubt, I've fought off a few tickets that way.

HAHA. That was an epic thread. In fact the guy that parked in my spot was this MASSIVE truck. I would be too scared to tow that thing.

I wouldn't even bother paying if it's Impark; they won't put in the effort to chase you down.

Tickets from the city of calgary have to be payed. When you go to renew your tags You will have to pay. also a $40 ticket bumps up to $80 after 6 months I think it is...
If its not city of Calgary, ya I wouldn't pay it...

I think public urination tickets are a provincial matter; and they should not be tied to your vehicle registry.

I've got one with from the City of Calgary.
It says if I don't pay it, a notice to appear in Provincial Traffic Court will be issued.
I will pay it to avoid any hassles.
