I disagree. Artie has been a big part of the funny on the show since his first day.

I like Beer League and his standup is alright, but on the show is where the guy shines. I guess we'll fine out Mon morning what's going on.
Meanwhile, here's another Downfall remake. A bit of swearing, so if you love Jesus or are 10 years old then steer clear.

Most of us Canadians would only know the Stern Show with Artie since we didn't get access to it untill Sirius was available in Canada. I still listen to the Stern show without him, but I much prefer it with Artie.
I think Sirius will make it worth Howard Stern's while to return after this year. They have read some of the stats on his show and it sounds like Sirius wouldn't survive without him (although a listener asked Howard exactly that and he responded that Sirius would be fine). 60 -70% of the subscribers listen to the Stern Show and two thirds of those listeners only listen to Howard 100 and Howard 101. That doesn't say to much for the rest of the channels.

Things sound pretty bad for Artie. He tried to kill himself by stabbing himself 9 times on Saturday. Stern show is pretty somber today.

Howard Stern Show sidekick Artie Lange was rushed to the hospital on Saturday in a failed suicide attempt, the New York Post has just reported. Lange was found by his mother in his apartment Saturday morning and immediately called 911. Lange was rushed to a Hoboken hospital where three deep stab wounds and six secondary wounds were treated in time to save the troubled comic.

I'm more upset by this than I should be. I knew that the guy had problems, but attempting suicide by stabbing yourself is a whole different level of darkness. I hope this is the rock bottom that finally sparks him to get better.
The show isn't the same without him, but at this point, I'm not sure that it can ever be the same with him either.

No wonder he didn't want to read the article on air. You have to really hate yourself to stab yourself, right? (I don't know the psychology here, but that is a brutal way to inflict injuries on yourself I would think).
So I assume his return to the show is months away if ever...does Jackie come in for a fill-in here and there, or will the chair rotate?

I'd think there'll be more comedian guests sitting in for a few segments rather than anyone actually taking Artie's chair. It wouldn't feel right if they replace him at this point, at least until Artie gets into real rehab and calls in to say that he's feeling great (hopefully that happens). I just hope that they give Artie time to actually get better before he comes back (if ever), because having him in there cracking jokes within the next few months would be terrible for the audience and himself.

For sure. I think that you're likely right there. To have him there would be uncomfortable for everyone, and to bring in people too soon might also send a horrible messsage.

I don't think Jackie will ever come back. Seems, at least according to Howard on the show, that the two of them just don't see eye to eye in a daily working relationship.
I really feel bad for Artie the guy has all sorts of problems which he does talk about in his book. When you see the pictures in his book it really makes you sad. He was such a handsome young boy and a decent athlete.
This is a picture of Artie as a two year old on his fathers knee at the Jersey shore in the late 60's.
His fathers death affected him deeply but he showed signs of addictive personality before his father died. He also tried to kill himself when he was with the cast of Mad TV in the 90's by overdosing.

Maybe Conan can sit in while NBC pays his salary?

Apparantly Artie still isn't doing very well, according to his sister last month.

I had gotten used to the show without him. Heard some segments with him on Wasted Week and wondered what was up with him now.

That's pretty sad. You think he could live a pretty great life if he wanted, but with all the drug problems and issues mentally he's having I'm not sure if he's ever going to be able to.
I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best for him. I've found myself listening to the show live a lot less since he's been gone. Just a different vibe without him there.

Hopefully Artie is doing well. Watched his stand up "Jack and Coke" DVD last night. Pretty funny stuff.
I dont think Howard will be back myself...and there will be a huge hole to fill which only one person can fill...

I think that Howard is coming back in a more limited capacity. Probably Tues to Thursday and for shorter shows or something like that.
Artie probably isn't coming back though...I do wish they would fill his chair, preferably sooner rather than later. I can't stand Robin and have had enough of listening to her BS, and another comedian to fill that airspace would be great!

I loved Ellis when he was a guest on the Stern show. Can't really get into his show though. Maybe he needs a better side kick.
Stern may never be duplicated. He makes us hang on every word of some unemployed loser alcoholic who lives in a trailer.

I've actually been enjoying O&A more than Howard's show lately. All of the American Idol talk especially has bored the hell out of me, and now that Artie is gone Robin is getting more mic time. Horrible.
I find myself looking forward to O&A's show more and more each day plus there are more laugh out loud moments. It's hit and miss though, Stern is more consistant.

Yeah Robin sucks. The only thing she brings to the show is the song paradies about her, which she detests (or at least pretends to).

There is no way I can describe my distain for Robin, the only think worse than her self centered attitude and lunatic stories is her horrid personality.
Have you listened to any of Carolla's podcasts? I have him a try last year and have not missed one since. Ellis is alright but I wasn't interested enough to go back.
Every few weeks I'll catch up with Ron & Fez, very funny show. Ron Bennington has one of the sharpest and quickest wits on radio.
