The company (carmacks) who clears deerfoot of snow etc is hiring drivers. Very little training is reqd to drive their sanding vehicles.
Its not really scheduled work but more on call.

The restaurant/bar scene turns me off for 2 reasons. First, the hours. Call me picky but those aren't hours I like. Second, is being around booze and stuff. I really like to drink and most of my friends that worked at bars soon found themselves staying around until 5am getting wasted after work. I fear I'd be the same.

Amazingly low-stress.

I would also consider that a step back for me. The telus/bell/rogers jobs appeal to me because there is little physical work and are at least somewhat professional looking. I'd like to avoid being a cashier at Costco and such and would like to avoid food preparation or delivery.
My best bets, so far, seem like a restaurant or bar (not as a cook) or a place like Telus or Bell.

Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming.
Part of this thread wasn't just to get suggestions but to gauge what other people think are "normal" University student type jobs. So even though I've balked at numerous suggestions it is only because I've done lots of that stuff and don't want to go back, I'm just not sure what a step ahead is.

I have to second the Rogers/Telus store suggestion. I worked there in university. You have to deal with idiots whinning..... why does this piece of technology the size of my palm that allows me to talk to anyone in the world at any time not always work perfectly...... this button is not exactly where I'd like it to be...... etc etc...
Other than that it is a great job. If you are good, you can earn close to 20 an hour. 80% of your time you sit on your ass, and can actually study while at work.
Pizza delivery is good, if you have a car that is both reliable and you are willing to rack up miles on.
The other option is waiter. If you are worried about the drinking thing, maybe look for more of a family restaurant. These tend to have better hours. As a part-time waiter you will probably only work the rush and be cut later. Just avoid bars and cultish places like Earls.

I worked at Black's Photography during my master's degree - I enjoyed it quite a bit - there wasn't much pressure to constantly sell (though around Christmas there were some nice incentives to sell certain cameras). I was a fairly avid photographer so that just fed my addiction - good thing and a bad thing combined. Overall though, for a retail job, it was pretty low key.

I worked at an oil services company during university, and it was a 24/7 office. Since nobody called in the evenings / nights, I was allowed to watch TV, play Playstation and sleep for hours on end. I took as many shifts as I could and I got A's in my last year.
As for part-time jobs, I would check out The City of Calgary - the Police have some interesting ones posted right now.

That is sort of in my field, depending on the position.
Do they do drug tests like they do for cops? That might rule me out.

They actually did do drug tests; I remember my boss saying that if you had alcohol or marijuana in your system you're all good, but anything harder and I probably wouldn't get the job haha...I was clean!

I used to deliver pizza ages ago. I'd make $100 per night on Fri, Sat, Sun minimum. All cash so I never declared it as income.
When the Flames won, business would always be better.

I worked at Bell while in school. It was a pretty awesome job. I made lots of friends there. The pay is really good also for a part time job. I was the richest one out of all my University buddies working only 20 hours a week. It's cleaner than a restaurant job and you will never have to work past 9 pm so you can have a social life. I had sales experience before working there, but lots of others only had customer service experience before landing the job. Just try to work in a busy location, (chinook, market mall, downtown, southcentre, sunridge). Don't worry about having to swindle customers. Surprisingly honesty goes a long way in a sales environment. Yes there were some slimey salesmen when I worked there, but those guys generally get busted really quick and end up not lasting very long.
Whatever you do though, don't work for Futureshop, it is by far the worst place to work. They will mentally drain you, rip apart your personality and make you clinically depressed. What they do is borderline illegal.
Good luck with the job search.

Try a hockey rink, that way you work indoors and sit by a TV.
