The reason is because you assume that because someone is bigger they hit harder. Sure, that would be the case in a gym or a MMA fight, but in domestic disputes the goal is often not to pummel the opponent to death but to simply inflict damage. A huge man is not likely to ground and pound his wife, but use some other less lethal violence. A women is just as capable to do this to her partner. To even suggest that when a man does it is worse is in my opinion wrong (worse as in the justification of violence).

I think I remember that a larger portion of men do not seek help for violent partners because of how they feel they will be perceived.

I'm not surprised most men don't report these incidents. I was stalked by a crazy girl for a few years, to the point where she moved across the country to be in the same city I was to stare at my house. I had ignored the nonstop gifts and threatening emails/calls from her for a few years, but after it got to this, I went to the police station to see what my options were before escalated to "Fatal Attraction" level. She wasn't a big girl, but batt crazy....and most people know that crazy can often be much more dangerous.

I was pretty much laughed at by the first 2 cops I talked to, and only the 3rd one (a female) actually even gave me a listen, if not much of a solution. I didn't accomplish much and was made to feel like a Semin. The lesson was pretty clear, if a woman threatens you in some way....mentally or physically....then you better just toughen up buttercup.

I don't see the problem in giving a woman a good open hand if she is pummeling you with fists. Maybe she might learn her lesson.

What do you tell Mary J. Blige's husband if he has two black eyes?

Nothing. He's already been told twice.

yea I know, I didn't add anything at all

If any of you were women, id hit you........

Seriously though, any of the above posters that think a girl hitting a guy isnt as bad as the other way around are dead wrong, period, point blank.

Violence is violence no matter how strong one is compared to the other.

There are also other intangibles to worry about here, not just the amount of force in Newtons. While it may be true that the force of a punch from a human male would normally be higher due to speed and mass, it does not necessarily mean that more 'damage' would be inflicted. Incorporating rings into the equation brings up an entirely different hazard altogether. Here you have to worry about cuts, tears, abrasions and infections, let alone damage done to vulnerable organs like the eye. Regardless of physical size and stature, I'd hate like hell to get hit in the face by an angry female, wearing any type of hardened jewelry.

To think that just because a male exerts more force from a punch than can a female, overly simplifies a difficult and contentious issue. Saying that men hit harder ergo it is 'worse' creates a whole new set of problems and essentially de-legitimizes the all too common occurrence of female violence towards men.

Personally I would like to think that Mary J. Blige would be subject to a similar experience both in the legal/judicial system and more importantly in the court of public opinion. But the sad fact is - as is evidenced by some CP posters - is that it won't happen and it somehow is less of a issue. Like the OP stated (without the explicit use of green text), I would like to see Oprah do a segment on this, though we all know that it will never happen.
