I bought the exact same model ~6 months ago. I'm now on my third machine. First two were duds that died after one or two uses. Both times the machine died with a disk inside, so it could not simply be returned, it had to be sent to Sony so they could extract the disk. The third one has been fine so far
I'd get my money back if i were you

Yea I got her packed up and ready to bring back. Even if I got it working I didn't really want it anymore with all the hassle already. For being like a mini PS3 I might as well just buy a PS3.

Dude, you can't go wrong with a PS3. So many things it is capable of doing.

Hopefully the price of PS3's is the same at FS because I'm guessing I'll only get store credit.

The PS3 is $299 everywhere - that's the standard price for the 120 GB model.
IMHO, the PS3 is the best blu ray player, media center and game machine out there. You can't go wrong with it.

The file that you are burning to the CD should be an ISO file. From Sony's website.
Creating a Update disc to be inserted into your BDP-S360.
- This firmware update is performed with a CD-R to be inserted into your BDP-S360.
Do not use a CD-RW disc. A CD-R disc is highly recommended.
- Use a brand new CD-R disc to burn the firmware update. The player may not be able to correctly read a dirty disc or a disc with scratches.
- User need a computer with a CD writer with burning software.
- The downloaded file will create an ISO Image. An ISO image (.iso) is a disk image of an ISO 9660 file system.
- Most CD authoring utilities can write ISO files to a disc. For more information, please check the help files of your CD authoring software.

I've had problems with my Samsung Blu-ray player not playing newer Blu-ray discs and 100% of the time it has been because the firmware needing an update. However you hasn't worked at all yet, so it might not be the case.
Have you tried watching a DVD? If a DVD works, and a Blu-ray doesn't, then it's your firmware.

It can still be a bum laser, as there's a different laser for DVD reading.

I just experienced the problem you have when I put my LG Plasma TV downstairs. All my components are hooked on my Pioneer Elite receiver. When I have my old Hitcahi TV downstairs, no problem with the BlueRay but when I hooked everything back to my LG Plasma, my BlueRay does not work. I checked the HDMI connection and still nothing. My nephew mentioned that it could be the HDMI cable that is causing the problem, we switched it and it worked. The HDMI that worked for the old Hitachi TV is cheap and it does not work for the LG Plasma. So, replace the HDMI cable to a better quality and I am sure it will work just fine. MIne is working now.

The PS3 drive is not the most reliable either. My drive only last 14 months, before it just up and died. Does not appear to be an uncommon problem.

After a bit of a hassle at FS today (the debit machine went down for the whole store) I got the 250GB PS3 for $300, an extra controller, free HDMI cable and Assassins Creed 2, God of War 1 & 2, and Metal Gear Solid 4 (all these games half price) for a total of about $500 with 3 yr warranty. Minus the $150 I already spent on the crap blu-ray player.
Definitely the way to go.
Thanks for the help everybody!
