Also check out:

Living Syndication - Aneurythm

This is a band that for some reason on the internet everyone thinks they are APC. An incredible album tho. Chevelle (who I mentioned above) also has a strong Tool influence.

Ya I checked out every single song he released (had to) and while alot of them were a little strange, I really really liked alot of the other ones. So experimental and sweet.

C-Life! I am digging Chevelle a LOT! Thanks for the suggestion, it's exactly the type of stuff I was looking for.

It's like a mix of TOOL and Helmet.

Awesome man glad I could help. What album or songs have you checked out so far?

You should enjoy that Living Syndication album a lot too.

For me when I want to discover a band, I always start with their first album and go from there. This way you can hear how the band progresses.

Chevelle only has 5 albums so that's the good news. I would start with their debut album Point #1 (1999) and then Wonder What's Next (2002) which was what got them decently famous. After those 2 if you like them, you will LOVE the next 3. Really a killer band.

You might like Riverside (http://www.myspace.com/riversidepl) or Wolverine (http://www.myspace.com/wolverineoverdose), particularly some of their heavier stuff.

Yea that's their brand new album. I was impressed by it. They seem to be one of the rare bands who are getting better and better with every album. But their older stuff is still so killer.

I'm more of a punk / ska fan myself, so I don't know if my musical tastes match yours, but I've always been a fan of:

Rancid
Green Day (pre Dookie)
Millencolin
Dropkick Murphy's
Goldfinger
Sublime
Lagwagon

etc

Also, one band you may have never heard of, The Getaway People, is not too bad.

Tool is my favorite band as well, but I am a total metal head. Here are some good bands to add to the list:
System of a Down (demo Chop Suey)
Candlemass (Demo Black Stone Wielder)
Fates Warning (Demo Prelude to Ruin)
Here are some bands you should already be listening to: The Jam, Jane's Addiction and Alice in Chains.

If you think you want more metal, I can up the ante a bit.

I should have added SOAD to my list, I actually thought I did (OH I do!). I listen to them all the time.

I love AIC as well.

I just discovered another band that has TOOL influence for sure.

Nage Waza and C-Life, check out Earshot...I think you might like them.

Sweet they sound a lot like Chevelle! I've only heard a couple songs but they sound killer. Any particular songs or albums?

No just checking them out for the very first time. I did a search for bands who have been influenced by TOOL. Chevelle and Earshot came up a lot! Figured I better check them out.
