Sometimes stuff like this is legit. Quite a while ago (i.e. >10 years), my brother sold his house to someone who came to his door to buy it.

My neighbour got one of those "yellow letters" They are indeed hand written on yellow paper!

My neighbour told me that a couple of other people on the street got them as well... is it more that one area? We're in Lakeview.

What's the return address on the Mail? maybe you should send her the same letter and see what happens. Haha.

I'll buy your house, but you have to send me $400 over PayPal first...

I know first hand several people who have bought and sold houses via a letter in the mailbox, including family. In fact, I've dropped a note in a mailbox or two myself over the past few years.

It's a great way to do the introduction and avoid the realtor costs (mind you, we had a former realtor in the family who knew the drill).

If you're thinking of selling, then call the person. If they are jerks then tell them that you're not interested.

If they are really motivated purchasers then they may overpay.

I wouldn't dismiss this out of hand at all.

My aunt bought a house like this. She found an area she really liked but there were no houses for sale. So she went down the street dropping letters in mail boxes (only on the side of the street she liked, mind you).

I received a yellow letter from Joel Last in crowfoot a few weeks ago. It was almost certainly printed out, but was in a handwritten script with red ink. I thought about replying with an asking price of ONE MILLION DOLLARS, but figured something was up, so had forgotten about it. Nice to know.

Beat me to the punch. Someone knocked on our family friends door one day and asked if they could buy their house... They ended up selling it to the guy.
