Panthers trade Jeff Halpern, Ben Chariot, and 1.1 million to Washington for Mark Fraser.

Fraser is a young D-man with the east leading New Jersey Devils and is having a good season being a team leading +9.

All a part of the rebuilding process.

^^^ The Capitals wanted to boost their 3/4 lines and bring down the average age a little bit. Halpern's 78DF rating will help shutdown the opposing teams, while hopefully kicking in a little offense.

Guys like Brind'Amour, Toskala, Hall, and Van Ryn, all which have decent ratings now, but will go down next year, I'm willing to trade them as a rental, having them returned to me after the season is concluded so you don't get saddled with the nasty contract beyond this year.

With multiple people asking about players not on my trade block, like Richards, McClemment, Halak and Morrisonn, I am not in a hurry to trade any of those players unless it's an overpayment. I am not going full out into dump everyone and start over mode, but a retooling for next season. I will need key players for that, and those guys I'm planning on making them more of the core of my team going forward.

Be careful with stuff like this - if the player is returned to a team - there would have to be something going back.

We can't have straight out rentals where a team trades for a player and then sends them back for nothing. Deals like that will be rejected.

If needed - we will implement a rule.

I can't see why you would hamper yourself with having to get the player back anyways. If someone is in cap trouble you could likely get him back for cheap, and even possibly have someone pay you with a prospect to get the contract off the books.

Panthers have traded Vesa Toskalol and the difference in $ this season to Columbus for Manny Fernandez, a 2nd this year (washington) and a 2nd next year (mine).

The cost to buy out Fernandez's contract next year is less than tosk would make and Tosk won't be very good next year (basically, what Fernandez is now)

With ratings taking into account the last 3 NHL seasons, I don't think we should assume Toskala's ratings will plummet.
