For future reference always have conversations over the phone where possible. It's amazing how quick scammers give up when you want an actual # to call and talk about the deal over the phone.

I think if you felt stupid right away and started your thread title with "I am an idiot", you answered your question already.

Come on. In this day and age you fall for that trick. I have zero sympathy for you. Warning bells everywhere around and you still go for it. Live and learn.

The holy attitudes here are unbelievable. He realizes he's screwed up, asks for help, and instead we continue to re-iterate how stupid he was to screw up?
Wow. As if we all haven't done stupid stuff like that before at some point. Give the guy a break.

The problem with CP nowadays is that if you put every ######bag on your ignore list, the threads end up making no sense.
Oh well.

Good luck with paypal on this one. Was he "verified" through paypal? If not you are going to be SOL.
Basically you should have started this thread before you sent the money and saved yourself $400.

bar FireFly's comment, I didnt get that impression from any other posters here. I found that everyone, so far, was quite helpful.

Depends, smart scammers use cheap payas you go cells found at your loca 7-11 that can easily be disposable if needed.
Anyways once the OP said the dude asked "will you be paying tonight" told me right there hes a scammer. Scammers will always be pushy asking when youre paying.

I've gotten paypal dispute money back from non-ebay sellers before.
Is kijiji/craigslist a special exception in their fine print somewhere?

I don't think you can say "Cry me a river" sarcastically given that it is already sarcasm. And his previous post shows that this was continued ######bag-ness.
-=-=-=-
Yes, Kijiji is a subsidiary of eBay.
-=-=-=-=-
Kijiji themselves say that their site is meant for local pick-up sales only. Ads that recommend another payment method should be flagged and will be removed. If the ad is still up, report it to Kijiji.

My cry me a river was not meant as sarcasm.
Anybody who buys something online that is such an incredible deal has to know by now it is a scam. Come on. How many warning signs does a person need? Kijiji has warnings all over there pages about dealing with remote people. The guy had warning bells going off everywhere in his mind and he still did the transaction. I could go on and on about why it was a bad deal all along. Add it up.
I am truly sorry you are out the $400. But seriously. It is done and stop being so damn stupid.
For the people who are saying back off the guy. Seriously, go cry to somebody else about it I am not listenting. This guy does need a kick in the pants for being an idiot.

As a mod; I think that piling on needs to stop. The guy made a mistake and admitted so in his first post. He didn't come onto CP and ask us to all tell him how bad his decision may have been; he came on to ask for our help.
If you aren't in this thread to offer assistance then please do not post. One of the great things about CP is people can ask a lot of different things and use the wealth of knowledge that we have. I really don't want to discourage the next poster with a question to doubt if he or she should post or not.

So I am assuming you opened up this thread, read what the OP did, laughed to yourself and then decided to be a ######bag by making him feel like an idiot. He already knows he screwed up, he doesn't need you to point that out. How about offering some real advice instead of being an idiot. Otherwise, don't post at all.
To the OP, I am not fully convinced yet that you got scammed. If your stuff doesn't come by Monday or Tuesday, then try to take action to get your money back. If you can't get your money back, then don't worry about it. It does sting, but hey, it's only money. In the grand scheme of things, $400 isn't THAT much money. Just be greatful that it wasn't thousands of dollars.

I made a minor comment to the guy in the thread. Now others are calling me out for that comment so I am responding to you people who are calling me.
I am truly sorry the guy lost his money. I am not talking about him specifically.
I am sick and tired of reading in the news about people getting scammed out of their money. Just stick to the rule. If it is too good to be true then there is something not right about the deal. Paying 50% for something is all about greed. Greed from the person who is offering it and greed for the person who is paying it.
It will happen again and again. When will the people learn? Never.

Thanks for all the help so far guys. Ive sent out two emails to the seller again today with no reply. My bank account is still not showing the 400 dollars taken. I opened the dispute yesterday and haven't heard anything back yet. I was thinking about transfering the money over to another account, but would there be harm in waiting till monday or tuesday to do this? The transaction was made late friday so my gut feeling says when the clock rolls over tonight my account will be 400$ lighter. Thanks so much for the thoughtful insight so far.
