The fact that Grey Eagle has smoking and more importantly.... PARKING has a ton to do with Stampedes and Elbow Rivers problems

They both have parking. Also just because the Elbow is up for sale (allegedly) does not mean it's in trouble. Perhaps the owner may be, but I'd be surprised if the casino is. That place is packed on the weekends and after Flames games.

I thought I read somewhere that use of the name "Frank Sisson's..." for some time was part of the deal. Kind of like keeping a familiar brand name while you transition to new ownership or something.

Hopefully the new owners will put some money into renovating the bowling alley. The lanes are in terrible condition and the pin setting equipment breaks down all the time.

As for the casino part.... meh.... I don't care. I don't gamble so if they gutted the casino I wouldn't give a crap.

Hopefully the City will, while helping move ahead with the traffic management system in the SW, puts a huge dent in some of that Grey Eagle traffic.

I would say smoking is just as big an issue. Non Flames/Saddledome event days you can find all sorts of parking for free in the evenings within a block or two around both Casinos....however then your're still saddled with the "inconvienence" or having to torch up outside.

So, an extra 15km drive it is, to have the luxury be able to walk through a haze of smoke and stamp out your cig in comfort on a carpet while you have your players card inserted in the slot machine and attached to your wrist.

Seems like I'm the other way around. I could care less about their bowling alleys. When me and my buddies head out to a casino, we usally hit up the Silver Dollar. Always a seat available at the Black Jack tables... and we've managed to sit beside some friendly people who don't mind my slight inexperience with the game.

The economy has played a factor, but Casinos in Calgary have been getting destroyed since the Grey Eagle opened. They can't compete with a casino that has smoking. Absolutely garbage, but I guess thems the breaks.

They could plop the casino into another dimension, and yet the smokers would still find a way to it.
