How much do controllers cost these days? I know it "might be the principle" of the issue, but nonetheless, I generally find that unless the thing cost me over a hundred bucks, it's not even worth sending it away etc.

Screw plugging it into my PS3, I love the fact I can plug it into my laptop beside me and keep playing away.

I used to do this with my wii when I still had it since it can charge on standby mode.

Here is the answer to your problems.
Get the Futureshop/Best Buy extended warranty on your hardware.
I have returned two controllers without a single hassle in the last year.

Word of warning for Mac users - if you do this on a 10.6 machine, the controller will pair with the Mac, and stop controlling the PS3, after which you have to hard wire it back to the PS3 to re-establish the pairing. It confused the heck out of me the first time it happened, when I too, used my machine to charge the controller rather than the PS3

And how do they know your controller actually broke in July when you said it did? They're just supposed to take your word for it? By the time you actually bothered to send it off it's warranty was expired.
Plus, 4 months to pack and move? Were you making small load car trips back and forth from Vancouver or something?
Sony was great with me when my PS3 started constantly overheating just 4 months after buying it. I had a new one in a week and a half that's been fine ever since. But, I was under warranty, and cared enough to get my expensive electronics replaced. If you didn't care, why should they?

How do they know it was broken? Cause I had to call them and register it as such. And it's not like I was thinking to myself "I should call Sony, and tell them my my controller broke, just incase it does."
I've moved on, I was pissed after getting off the phone with Sony, and posted. I would have thought that if I had to call and register a broken item I bought from them that they would trust that it was actually broken, and would help me out considering it was still under warranty.
I'm not a scammer, I'm not someone who's trying to beat the system. I'm someone who is not happy with their "policy", and needed to vent. And I felt I should post so that if anyone else has a problem with a Sony item, don't take 4 months to send it in.
And that's all I'll say about it. Thanks for reading the post... nothing more to see here.

I don't doubt that you're being honest, but that doesn't mean that Sony should trust you. You're a random person on the phone, and that scam seems pretty darn easy if they allow it to go on.
