I wish I had more time for music. I listen to quite a large, ecclectic selection, but I always feel like I'm missing some really good stuff. There are so many albums on these lists that I've wanted to listen over the last 10 years but just can't seem to find the time (or the money).

Just skimming through this thread, it seems to me that the most reoccurring item on all the various Album of the decade lists is Funeral-Arcade Fire, have to agree with that.

Edit: I'll never understand the love for Wilco, most insipid band of the decade maybe.

Personally I can't stand the Arcade Fire, but I understand them being on the top lists.

However, any top records of the decade that doesn't include Sufjan Stevens' Illinois is wrong. There is not an album I've listened to more this decade than that one.

I like a lot of different types of music, but that album is simply fantastic, regardless of how pretentious Stevens might be, or his listeners.

You should listen to funeral again. There is no reason why a sane individual would not like that album.

I liked Arcade Fire the first time I heard them when they were called Echo and the Bunneymen. (a poor man's version at that)

I've tried many many times to listen to The Arcade Fire and I just can't stand them. The voice, the music, nothing appeals to me.

I had Funeral in my playlist for over a year and every time I heard one of the songs I cringed. Same thing with Neon Bible, I wanted to give them a shot, but that stuff is just awful in my ears.

Technically true (the same way 2000 was the last year of the 20th Century, not the first year of the 21st), but it's a lost cause trying to convince people so might as well go with the flow and consider 2000 - 2009 to be a decade.

I take it you've only listend to Sky Blue Sky if that's how you honestly feel. A Ghost is Born, Summerteeth, and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot are great albums.

Animal Collective seems to be getting a lot of love on these lists. They're the one band repeated in the lists that I've never given a listen to. Any fans/opinions here?
I'll have to give them a listen.

Music started going downhill in the 90's and the 2000's were just horrible! Good riddance I say.

You better listen to some samples before buying. It is very different stuff - beach boys harmonies and abstract noise. I like it, but many find it a chore.

I think this is one of the best songs of 2009, and others will claim it makes their ears bleed:

Agreed. I think they're great, but I wouldn't be busting them out at a party or camping.

Well, my ears aren't bleeding (though it's not my bag for sure) but I was damn close to scratching my eyes out!

I bought it based on hype and a growing love for electronica. I instantly loved it, but have not succeeded in getting anyone I know to like it vv

Most people hit a point where they close up to new music. I went through that a few years ago and got frustrated that I was having trouble finding new music. You really have to open your mind and re-learn to love music. There's a wealth of great new music being made, do a little digging and you should find something you like.
