I used to bowl when I was a kid, wouldn't mind getting back into it either.
I did 10 pin, best year for me I had a 191 average and a 279 top score (11 strikes in a row, first frame was gutter/9 haha... and start of next game? Strike in 1st frame...)
I went bowling about a month ago with my g/f's work function - bowled a 230 and a 211 - guess I haven't lost it yet, haha.
Used to play league in both. I prefer 5 pin, I'd like to get back into it someday. Averaged about 215 in 5 pin and 168 in 10. Bowled a 370 or 380 in 5 (8 strikes in a row!!), best in 10 was a 220.
the act of bowling is similar to a slapshot. at least that is the way i bowl.
swing back about waist height, let go of the ball about the same area as contact with puck, follow through, lift the back leg for balance, and point to where you want the ball/puck.
yes, this is why my bowling sucks (except on the wii)...and i have a crappy slapshot, too.

This sounds just like me, which is how I actually managed to bowl a 4 and a 24 the first time I bowled. Now I can usually break 70, but everyone around me keeps asking me, "did that hurt?"
I bowl 5 pin; couldn't do it this year because of a class schedule. I average around 200-220 depending on the league. My high game is a 357, and I really want to get back in a league. It's a fun way to kill a night and win some money. For my Thursday league that ran Sept-March, we finished 6th in season and 10th in playoffs and each won $85, and in my Spring League (May-June) we finished first and won $80 each.
