Oh I get how it works.
I also have seen it not make a lick of difference.

I got a refurbed unit back which pretty much immediately RROD'd on me... I wasn't impressed...
It still works but I have to cycle the power a few times... and I'm sure it's on its last legs and I'll be sending it back within a month.

How long of a warranty do you get with the replacement xbox? I think I read somewhere it's the balance of your original 3 year warranty or 90 days? Right now the xbox support site says my Warranty Expiration: 2/22/2010 7:00:00 PM.
I'm getting a little concerned because the site says the last 5 digits of the serial number on the xbox they are sending me are 54706.
According to this site:
http://xbox360glitches.com/2009/04/w...serial-number/
I'm getting a machine that was:
-made in 2005
-week 47
-in a factory in Taiwan
awesome

My xbox overheated awhile ago and for some reason, the disk drive no longer functions properly. However, I don't have the RROD, which means that its only covered under 1 year warranty instead of 3 (for RROD).
Do you think they'll check that my xbox has the RROD before sending out a new console if I send my broken console as having RROD?

You can try to RROD it by turning it on and wrapping it in a blanket. Also it'll probably help to load a game. Since your drive doesn't work try running a game demo.

Just got off the phone with them. I am covered for the RROD! So Microsoft will
pay the bill! I thought I would have to get a new Xbox.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I already tried to overheat it but it seems to automatically turn off by itself before it overheats.

My xbox RROD'd around late October last year. I didn't get it back until January. It sucked because I wanted to have it for christmas holidays, which is some great down time for gaming.
This year my xbox has been freezing frequently. I wouldn't be suprised if craps out on me just in time for the holidays again.

^^I have kids, so I don't do much gaming anymore. This is why I like playing NHL, I can play a few games a week without neglecting my kids. Christmas is usually a good time for me to get some gaming done, too. Sounds like I should expect my xbox back by January. Crap.

Got my first RROD tonight. My xbox was from September 2007 and has HDMI. If I don't get one with HDMI back, I will be seriously pissed.

I feel your pain and sorry for your loss. When mine went out I had just put the kids to bed, and was ready to relax when the RROD happened.
The RROD should be added in the dictionary.

I got mine back a couple weeks ago now. Altogether it took less than 3 weeks for them to send back (to Vancouver) a refurbished unit along with a 1 month live membership.
I'm happy to have it back, but I'm not very optimistic about it lasting very long. It seems quite a bit louder than my original xbox, and with only another month or so on the warranty I'm sure it will crap out soon.

My refurb which I got about a year ago now has worked tremendously. I haven't noticed if it is louder or not since it has been so long, but it does stay A LOT cooler than my old one did, and I have gone through a few 8-10 hours stretches of it being on. Although it has made some disc scratching noises in the past few months, other than that, my refurb is way better than my original.
