On dry asphalt they are.. Plenty of trucks use them in the mountains during really bad storms.

Tip to the OP.. Use the drivebc.ca website if travelling through BC and check your route before leaving. If theres avalanches in the mountains that site will tell you which roads are closed.

It takes you off most of the moutain roads that can cause snow delays.
Not only that, but when you cross the border from BC into Alberta, it's usually like leaving hell for heaven. Everything just suddenly gets brighter, cleaner and better maintained.

I would go through spokane rather than through Rogers Pass. You have 4 hours of interstate through the 1st mountain range at a lower altitude than the Kokohola. You also avoid rogers pass which I think is the first pass to close due to Avalanche or blizzard conditions.

You also have the option at Cranbrook to to through Crowsnest pass through Fernie or through Radium on highway 93. It is a little longer maybe 1/2 hour but I find that drive a lot nicer.

I would also leave the day or two before the game as you don't want to feel rushed while driving through the mountains. When you are planning your trip plan on going 80 through the mountain passes that way you won't feel like you are getting behind and driving slow.

Also, what other recommendations would you make as far as stuff to see/do?

Here is a thread when Sparkyone came up to Calgary from QC.

They did Banff, Tyrell museum of Paleontology, and the Flames. Search her user name and you'll get a better thread where many suggesions were made on what to see.

Another thing to consider when choosing your driving route...The Olympics will be going on for most of February in Vancouver. I would expect the entire lower mainland area and most surrounding highways to be really busy. Like, shoot yourself in the face busy. Just an all around good place to avoid.

I would go this way too up to Cranbrook. If Radium to Lake Louise is closed, take the Crowsnest, put it in neutral and let the wind push you through.
