Yeah, but aren't you like a graphic designer or something? That doesn't count as real work. That's like saying art school is like real school.

Also, I'm sleeping on the couch tonight if my wife reads this post.

I always see vacation time as a negotiating point. I don't plan on staying with any single employer for longer than a few years. It's kind of the norm in the field I work in though.

Vacation is typically negotiated and after a few years of work you can demand 4 weeks and typically get it even if you're starting with a company. 4 weeks at 5 years is pretty typical, once you get 4 weeks, you'll likely be able to stay there even if you move companies.

I've been self-employed for 20 years. For the first 10 years I took off from Christmas until New Year's ... except for a couple days in between. For the last 10 years I've taken 2 to 3 weeks per year. I envy salaried workers getting guaranteed vacations.

well, i work for a small company. when i say small, it's the boss, me and one other guy. so negotiating more vacation time is a waste of time.

I've been self employed for 1 year and so far prefer it. I haven't taken any time off this year, but at least it's my choice. I might just start my X-Mas holidays in 2 weeks and I like that I have that choice.

self employed here as well, and yes I will take all the holidays I want!!! Furthermore, Canada is a joke on the international scale when it comes to vacation...but at least we have the weather and good tax rates that everybody is envious of...

I got three weeks to start, 4 when I hit 5 years, 5 at 10, not sure from there where it goes. I'm about to hit year 3.
