I preloaded this game on steam and have been playing it since it was released earlier today, and hot damn is it great. I played through the City Elf and Mage origins and both were exceptionally well done. I can't wait to see how the origins change my path through the game.
I guess Edmonton can do one thing right.

Ah, I'm hearing so many different things about the PS3 framerate. I've heard many reports saying that it's horrible and some that say it's not bad and I'm more likely to believe you than the others on the Internet. I would rather get the PS3 version but I'll wait on more impressions.
I would install it on my computer but playing a game like this (longish RPG) I'd rather play on a bigger screen and a more comfortable chair. And I really doubt my iMac has the graphical horsepower to play the game at least the monitor's native resolution (1920x1200 I think).

I'm downloading on STEAM right now but it is taking sooo long. I've heard that PC is the way to go with this one and it doesn't really suprise me considering it is descendant of Baldurs Gate. I can't wait te be able to set off.

I downloaded it off Steam starting at 9 pm, had it done by 11 pm with Shaw's 15 MB/s internet.
Played now for 2 hours plus, and now its long past time to go to bed.
Awesome game.
I played as a dwarf warrior commoner, and made it through the origin story. Very cool story.
In the past Baldurs' Gate games I usually skipped a lot of the lore. In this game they make it seem interesting and exciting, so I'll play the story this time.
The hardest initial part was getting used to non WoW controls and combat. It was such a refreshing relief to find a different form of combat.

if i bought the PC version of Dragon Age, would the code let me unlock the Mass Effect 2 armor for the Xbox 360? i have to get the 360 version of ME2 since all the save game files for the original are on there (which the sequel uses), but the PC version of DA seems to be hands down the best of the 3 so i'm hoping it's a generic code, and not tied to specific systems. that would suck

It'll be specific to the system. 360 copies of DA will work for 360 copies of ME2. Because between the PS3 and 360, each use different codes, so I don't think they'd match the PC and 360. They'll all be separate.
From what I have seen the PC is the way to go, but the 360/PS3 wouldn't be a bad option. Unless your totally anal about graphics then it shouldn't matter.

well the PC version has better graphics, better controls (keyboard's for RPG's make a big difference), and it's cheaper (the collector's edition on Steam is $5.00 less than the regular version for consoles). guess i'll just have to do without the armor

I went to install my Dragon Age last night and found out my DVD rom is hooped. Won't read discs anymore. So I just went and bought a new one since they are so cheap and I still burn a lot of CD's. But if I would have remembered the Steam option I would have just done that right off the bat. I have purchased multiple games through Steam and it is just a flawless, epic encounter. I have the Dragon Age manual if you want it PM me and we can set up some type of file transfer over MSN or something.
Or you could *cough* look at it through a torrent *cough* would be a two second download.
Edit: this file is only 1,161 KB so I can email it to anyone who needs it. It is identical to my hard copy just in PDF format. PM me with your email if you would like it. It is quite handy for figuring out stats. But nothing you can't find already on the internet I am sure. Still some people love to have the manual.

I've read lots about the XBox version but very little actual impressions of the PS3 version. Thanks!

Check out the gamespot review. They say that the PS3 version is the console version to get. The 360 version has a slightly better framerate, but the visuals are poor compared to the PS3

Nice thing about this on the PC is it is fully multi-core. I'm expecting that these will start becoming much more common.

The only good things to ever come out of Edmonton...:
And now, add to that as well.
Although I must admit... the constant codex entries every five minutes make me feel like I'm being kicked in the teeth to 'know everything there is to know about Felderen'

So if you buy the game or d/l online you should get a free code in the box or emailed to you that unlocks Shale: The Golem! He is a character that joins your party for good and unlocks a side quest story line.
Also up for purchase is the Wardens Keep. I guess this unlocks a whole big chapter in the story and also serves as a permanent base with item storage for your crew.
This one costs $7, the Shale is free.

Follow this link > Community > Sign up or Sign in > Moues over Profile > Add Bioware Points > Buy the amount worth $7 > Fire up the game hit Log in > Click DLC Tab and buy Wardens Keep.
There might be a faster way of doing it directly in game, but I bought it from work so that is how I did it.. the DLC thing is a cool concept, but what worries me is that they might go over board and we end up spending $200 on one game lol..
But since I am used to paying $20 a month anyway to play a game, I guess I do not mind so much. The reason there is so much DLC is because they were done the PC version in March, but delayed while they polished the Console versions. So the PC crew worked this all out.
It will be released gradually, if you played WOW think content patches.
Edit: Details can be found here

I have a cousin who works at bioware and he has been a bit busy the past few months. Multiple trips to Europe, trip to PAX, media interviews, etc.
I posted on Facebook that I picked up DAO and was actually a bit surprised he had time to reply last night.

How is the voice acting? Doesn't Dragon Age boast Tim Curry and Kate Mulgrew?

It does. I ran into both voice actors' characters, but I didn't immediately catch on to Tim Curry's character. So far, he's not had a big part, either.
Kate Mulgrew on the other hand, I recognized immediately. As soon as I heard her character's voice, I was like OMGOMGOMG CAPTAIN JANEWAY!
I love being a geek.
I just hope they have larger, dialogue heavy roles later on in the game. I'd hate it if they did to Tim and Kate what they did to Marina Sirtis in Mass Effect...
"Featuring voice acting from Marina Sirtis! But she only has like 30 minutes of actual screen time in a 40+ hour game"

You're also missing Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights
I'm 6 hours into this game right now. It's incredible, I would say Game of the Year if it keeps it up.

Picked up my copy (PC version) at BestBuy during lunch today. They had it advertised for $59.99 but I got them to price match FutureShop.ca which had it at $54.99. With the additional 10% they beat prices by, it came to $51.97 after taxes.
Can't wait to get home and try it out.
